Nordfold Church
Nordfold Church ( no, Nordfold kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Steigen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Nordfold. It is the church for the Nordfold parish which is part of the Salten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The wood and brick church was built in a rectangular style in 1976 using plans drawn up by the architect Tor G. Dahlstrøm. The church seats up to about 260 people. History The first church in Nordfold was built in 1884, after about 20 years of the residents trying to get one. Jens Olsen from Hemnes was the lead builder. On 30 September 1884, the church was consecrated by the Bishop Jacob Sverdrup Smitt. That church seated about 400 people. A major renovation was completed on the church in 1973. On the night of 4 January 1975, a fire broke out in the church after it was struck by lightning, and the church burned down. Steigen ('stejgen) is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Salten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Leinesfjord. Other villages include Bogen, Leines, Nordfold, Nordskot, and Sørskot. Engeløy Airport, Grådussan is located in the northern part of the municipality. Hemnes is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Helgeland traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Korgen. Other villages include Bjerka, Bleikvasslia, Hemnesberget, and Sund. The municipality sits south of the Ranfjorden and stretches south and east toward the border with Sweden. Bjarne Odd Weider
Bjarne Odd Weider (1913—1985) was the Bishop of the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland from 1969 until 1982. Weider was born on 17 June 1913 in Trondheim, Norway. He received his Cand.theol. degree in 1936 from the MF Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo. For several years he worked for the Norwegian Missionary Society. He was a parish priest in Hurdal from 1955 until 1961. He was the rector at the MF Norwegian School of Theology from 1961 until 1969. In 1969 he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. He held that post until his retirement in 1982. Aspersion and affusion fonts The fonts of many Christian denominations are for baptisms using a non-immersive method, such as aspersion (sprinkling) or affusion (pouring).
