Nomi Ruiz is an American singer, songwriter, actress, essayist, DJ and producer, who is also known for her work as Jessica 6. Early life Nomi Ruiz was born in 1986 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City and assigned male at birth. Her parents are of Puerto Rican descent. Career ''Lost in Lust'' In 2005, Ruiz released her debut album ''Lost in Lust'' on her own independent label Park Side Records. The album is a song-oriented downbeat electronic album steeped in the grittier ends of early-1990s hip-hop and R&B production. After its release, she toured with CocoRosie, Debbie Harry and Antony & The Johnsons as part of their "Turning" project and ''Turning''. Jessica 6 (band)
Jessica 6 is the electronic pop performing alias of Nomi Ruiz which began as a Brooklyn-based Nu-disco and R&B trio that formed after helping put together the Hercules and Love Affair live show. Formerly known as Deep Red, their name was taken from the lead character of the same name from the 1967 novel ''Logan's Run''. History Nomi Ruiz first met Andrew Raposo and Morgan Wiley in late 2007 after they helped put together the Hercules and Love Affair live show, but didn't form the band until 2008. The band's bassist Andrew Raposo stated that the band formed after “Nomi uizbrought over a kick-pattern and a song she’d written called ‘Fun Girl.'” Raposo first met Wiley in college before joining the now defunct DFA produced hip-hop act Automato together. ''Turning'', full title ''Turning: A Film by Charles Atlas and Antony'' is a documentary musical art film made by video artist Charles Atlas in collaboration with British-American artist Anohni and her band Antony and The Johnsons. Synopsis The film focuses on 13 New York City-based women who appeared with Antony and the Johnsons in the band's European tour in the Autumn of 2006. During the concert, each subject rotated slowly on a turntable platform on stage, her features blown up and transfigured on a screen behind Anohni and her band, then known as Antony and the Johnsons. Atlas incorporated the 13 personalities in the film and music through candid shots and playful banter to define his picturesque subjects on screen. The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal ( en, Montreal International Jazz Festival) is an annual jazz festival held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Montreal Jazz Fest holds the 2004 Guinness World Record as the world's largest jazz festival.
