Nokia Phones Beta Labs
Nokia phones beta labs is a service in which beta software for Nokia smartphones are available for public download. The service was originally launched as Nokia Beta Labs in 2007 by Nokia for S60-based Symbian devices, and later for the company's Windows Phone-based Lumia line. After the sale of the Nokia mobile devices division to Microsoft, the website was renamed Lumia Beta Apps. It was discontinued in 2015. The service was revived by HMD Global in 2017 for Nokia Android smartphones, allowing members to test Android 8.0 Oreo beta. Overview The applications provided by Beta Apps are in development, but are considered "mature" enough to be released in order to be tested by users worldwide. Anyone can submit feedback about applications, which goes to the development team. HMD Global
HMD Global (Human Mobile Devices) is a Finnish independent mobile phone manufacturer. The company is made up of the mobile phone business that the Nokia, Nokia Corporation sold to Microsoft in 2014, then bought back in 2016 by former executives who formed HMD Global. HMD began marketing Nokia-branded smartphones and feature phones on 1 December 2016, through an exclusive licensing agreement, and began producing self-branded HMD phones in March 2024. HMD formed with a partnership with Google, and uses the Android (operating system), Android operating system under the Android One program on their smartphones, whereas HMD's Feature phone, feature phones use the Series 30+ platform as well as the more advanced KaiOS. Manufacturing is outsourced to Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile. Lumia imaging apps are imaging applications by Microsoft Mobile and formerly by Nokia for Lumia devices built on the technology of Scalado (except for Lumia Panorama which was developed earlier by Nokia originally for Symbian and MeeGo devices). The Lumia imaging applications were notably all branded with "Nokia" in front of their names, but after Microsoft acquired Nokia's devices and services business the Nokia branding was superseded with "Lumia", and often updates included nothing but name changes, but for the Lumia Camera this included a new wide range of feature additions. Most of the imaging applications are developed by the Microsoft Lund division. As part of the release of Windows 10 Mobile and the integration of Lumia imaging features into the Windows Camera and Microsoft Photos applications some of these applications stopped working in October 2015. Softpedia
Softpedia is a software and tech news website based in Romania. It indexes, reviews and hosts downloadable software and reports news on technology and science topics. It is ranked as among of the top download portals on the internet. History Softpedia was started by two Romanian students, Bogdan Gheorghe and Cătălin Garmacea as softnews.ro. They realized that the Romanian audience was too small so they shifted the website to English and changed the domain to softpedia.com. The Romanian version was eventually discontinued because advertisers wanted a solely English website. The site got around 950,000 visits in 2005. Softpedia's revenue in 2006 was 1.6 million euros, with 95% of the revenue coming from outside Romania. In 2007, the Romanian website monitoring service Traffic.ro reported Softpedia as getting 3.5 million visits a week, mostly from outside of Romania. Microsoft Lumia 640 XL
The Microsoft Lumia 640 and Microsoft Lumia 640 XL are Windows Phone smartphones developed by Microsoft Mobile. Both phones were announced on March 2, 2015, and are the successors to the Nokia Lumia 630 series and the Lumia 1320, respectively. The phones are primarily aimed at developing markets, although they are also available in developed markets as lower-cost options compared to other phones in their classes. The two devices became available in the US and most other markets in June 2015. On February 15, 2016, Microsoft announced the Lumia 650, the Lumia 640 successor, with improvements like device encryption, an AMOLED display, and 16 GB of flash storage. On October 18, 2017, Microsoft confirmed that the phone will not receive more major Windows updates, but it will still get security updates and cumulative updates until 2020.
