Nokia 2010
The Nokia 2010 is a mobile phone that was announced by Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia in January 1994. According to the late Matti Makkonen, a manager of Nokia Mobile Phones at the time, Nokia 2010 was the first mobile phone to enable writing messages easily. Other features include lists of 10 dialed calls, 10 received calls and 10 missed calls. The phone has a monochromatic display that can show two rows of text at a time, which are surrounded by symbols for dedicated functions — battery status and reception level on either side; SMS message notification, keypad lock, et al. at the top. The handset has an antenna slot that supports either an external rigid antenna, or a pull-out type antenna (more common). The ''2010'' used a full-size (1FF) sim-card. Nokia 2010 was the more affordable version in the ''2xxx'' series than the business-oriented Nokia 2110, both of which were released in 1994. Nokia 1011
The Nokia 1011 (NHE-2X5, NHE-2XN) is the first mass-produced GSM phone. It was sold also as Mobira Cityman 2000. The typenumber refers to the launch date, 10 November 1992. The black handset measured 195 x 60 x 45 mm and featured a monochrome LCD and an extendable antenna. The memory could hold 99 phone numbers. It did not yet employ Nokia's characteristic ringtone: that was only introduced in 1994. The phone operated in the 900 MHz GSM band. At that time the device cost about 2500 DM (about euros today). The phone was able to send and receive SMS messages, even if Nokia says that its model 2110 phone was the first SMS-enabled GSM phone. Nokia 1610
Nokia 1610 is a mobile phone model manufactured by Nokia. It complemented the Nokia 2110 business model, but had significantly fewer features. It was introduced in April 1996 and released in May and became highly popular at the time. The phone had a monochromatic display which could show two rows of text at a time. The operating manual did not mention a possibility to send text messages, but at least units sold from 1996 and onwards included the function. The SMS capable version was called 1610 Plus. The phone used an external rigid antenna, but had a groove on the inside of the battery to accommodate a pull-out type antenna. The form factor of a mobile phone is its size, shape, and style, as well as the layout and position of its major components. With one non-movable section Bar A bar (also known as a slab, block, candybar) phone takes the shape of a cuboid, usually with rounded corners and/or edges. The name is derived from the rough resemblance to a chocolate bar in size and shape. This form factor is widely used by a variety of manufacturers, such as Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Matti Makkonen
Matti Makkonen (16 April 1952 – 26 June 2015) was a Finnish engineer in the field of mobile communications. He was employed (among others) by Nokia Networks and the then Telecom Finland (branded as Tele), as well as Oy. Makkonen played a leading role in creating the mobile communication unit of what is today TeliaSonera. In 2008, Makkonen was awarded ''The Economist'' Innovation Award in the computing and telecommunications category for his work on text messaging (SMS). The Nokia 2110 is a cellular phone made by the Finnish telecommunications firm Nokia, first announced in February 1993. It is the first Nokia phone with the famous Nokia tune ringtone. The phone can send and receive SMS messages; and lists ten dialed calls, ten received calls and ten missed calls. At the time of the phone's release, it was smaller than others of its price and had a bigger display, so it became very popular. It also features a "revolutionary" new user interface featuring with two dynamic softkeys, which would later lead to the development of the Navi-key on its successor, the Nokia 6110, as well as the Series 20 interface.
