No Deeper Meaning
"No Deeper Meaning" is a song written by Jay Supreme and Nosie Katzmann, and recorded by German Eurodance band Culture Beat. It was released in June 1991 as the fourth and final single from their first studio album, ''Horizon'' (1991). The female vocals are performed by Lana Earl. A CD maxi with new remixes was also available, but it was marketed at the same time as the other media. The song reached number four in the Netherlands and number nine in Portugal. Outside Europe, it charted at number three on the '' RPM'' Dance/Urban chart in Canada. The song is about a woman who goes to a nightclub and doesn't want to start a relationship, she just wants to dance. The chorus samples the 1983 song " Change" by British rock group Tears for Fears. Critical reception Larry Flick from ''Billboard'' wrote that here, the German act "returns to the festive hip-house sound of earlier hits." Culture Beat is a German Eurodance project formed in 1989 by Torsten Fenslau. The act has gone through a number of lineup changes over the years; they achieved the most success whilst fronted by singer Tania Evans and rapper Jay Supreme. Their 1993 single " Mr. Vain" was a number-one hit in eleven European countries, and the act is thought to have sold more than 10 million records worldwide. Hip house, also known as rap house or house rap, is a musical genre that mixes elements of house music and hip hop, that originated in both London, United Kingdom and Chicago, United States in the mid to late 1980s. British group the Beatmasters' "Rok da House" is known to be the very first hip house record, having been written and pressed to vinyl in August 1986. Other early hip house records by British artists include " Pump Up the Volume" by MARRS and " Beat Dis" by Bomb the Bass, both from 1987. ''Music & Media'' was a pan-European magazine for radio, music and entertainment. It was published for the first time in 1984 as ''Eurotipsheet'', but in 1986 it changed name to ''Music & Media''. It was originally based in Amsterdam, but later moved to London. The magazine focused specifically on radio, TV, music, charts and related areas of entertainment such as music festivals and events. The Canadian dance chart was first known to be published on November 13, 1976 by '' RPM'' magazine under the name ''Top 30 Disco Playlist''. The song which held the number-one spot on this first chart was "Keep It Comin' Love / I'm Your Boogie Man" by KC and the Sunshine Band. No chart was published from January 1980 until September 3, 1988.
