Christopher Barry
Christopher Chisholm Barry (20 September 1925 – 7 February 2014) was a British television director. He worked extensively in BBC television drama and became best known for his work on the science fiction series ''Doctor Who''. He also directed the direct to video ''Doctor Who'' spin-off ''Downtime'' in 1995. Early life and education Barry was the son of Sir Gerald Barry, editor of the ''News Chronicle'' and director general of the Festival of Britain in 1951, and his first wife Gladys, He attended Blundell's School in Devon and the University of Cambridge, before service in the Royal Air Force. Armine Sandford
Armine Margaret Sandford (1928 – 4 January 2011) was an English actress and news presenter. Born in St Germans, Cornwall, Sandford was the daughter of a physician who practised at Exeter.Patrick Robertson, ''The Book of Firsts'' (1975), p. 181 In 1950 she appeared in a stage revival of '' Doctor Faustus'', and during an acting career on screen she appeared in the films ''A Town Like Alice'' (1956), ''A Picture of Autumn'' (1957) and ''Virtuoso'' (1959), and continued to appear in television programmes until about 1966. On 30 September 1957, Sandford became the first woman television newsreader when she joined the BBC West Region's daily television news bulletin from its studios in Bristol. Norman Mitchell
Norman Mitchell Driver (27 August 1918 – 19 March 2001), known professionally as Norman Mitchell, was an English television, stage and film actor. Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, his father was a mining engineer and his mother a concert singer. He attended Carterknowle Grammar School and the University of Sheffield, before appearing in repertory theatre and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. During World War II he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He then made many television appearances and appeared in over sixty films. Mitchell was married to actress Pauline Mitchell until her death in 1992. He was the father of Jacqueline Mitchell and actor Christopher Mitchell (actor), Christopher Mitchell, known for his role in the BBC sitcom ''It Ain't Half Hot Mum''. Clifford Cocks
Clifford Christopher Cocks (born 28 December 1950) is a British mathematician and cryptographer. In the early 1970s, while working at the United Kingdom Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), he developed an early public-key cryptography (PKC) system. This pre-dated commercial offerings, but due to the classified nature of Cocks' work, it did not become widely known until 1997 when the work was declassified. As his work was not available for public review until 1997, it had no impact on numerous commercial initiatives relating to Internet security that had been commercially developed and that were well established by 1997. His work was technically aligned with the Diffie–Hellman key exchange and elements of the RSA algorithm; these systems were independently developed and commercialized. Rio Fanning
Rio Fanning (7 November 1931 – 12 August 2018) was a Northern Irish actor and writer. Theatre Raised in Tralee, he made his debut appearing in school plays and pageants produced by his father. As an adult, he trained at the London School of Dramatic Art. Fanning began appearing in repertory theatre in late 1954 in Lancashire. Among these roles was playing Walter Darvel in Alan Melville's play '' Dear Charles'' at Royalty Theatre, Morecambe. William Leo Franklyn (; 22 September 1925 – 31 October 2006) was an English actor, perhaps best known for voicing the "Schhh... You Know Who" adverts for Schweppes from 1965 to 1973. He also performed on stage, film, television and radio, taking over from Peter Jones as "The Book" (the narrator) in the third, fourth and fifth radio series of ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy''. Cyril Luckham
Cyril Alexander Garland Luckham (25 July 1907 – 8 February 1989) was an English film, television and theatre actor. He was the husband of stage and screen actress Violet Lamb. Career The son of a paymaster captain in the Royal Navy, Cyril Luckham was educated at RNC Osborne and Dartmouth and briefly followed his father into the service. He was promoted Lieutenant in 1930 and retired the following year, transferring to the Emergency List. Afterwards he trained for the stage with the Arthur Brough school at Folkestone, making his debut with Brough's company there in ''The Admirable Crichton'' in 1935. For several years he appeared in provincial repertory, notably with the Rapier Players at Bristol's Little Theatre. He had been promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on the retired list in 1938 and was recalled to the Navy when the War broke out.
