No. 1 Medical Receiving Station (1MRS) was a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) field hospital unit during World War II. History 1MRS was formed at Daly Waters, Northern Territory, on 23 March 1942. The field hospital was constructed near 5 Mile Water Hole. On 14 September 1942 the unit moved to a field hospital at Coomalie Creek. A field hospital is a temporary hospital or mobile medical unit that takes care of casualties on-site before they can be safely transported to more permanent facilities. Daly Waters, Northern Territory
Daly Waters is a town and locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located about south of the territory capital of Darwin at the intersection of the Carpentaria Highway and the Stuart Highway. The area's traditional owners, the Jingili people, believe the Dreaming tracks of the Emu and the Sun travelled through here on their way to the southern parts of the Northern Territory. History The name Daly Waters was given to a series of natural springs by John McDouall Stuart during his third attempt to cross Australia from south to north, in 1861–62. Stuart named the springs after the new Governor of South Australia, Sir Dominick Daly. Stuart's first attempt, in 1860, had reached Tennant Creek. Coomalie Creek, Northern Territory
__NOTOC__ Coomalie Creek is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located about south-east of the territory capital of Darwin. The locality consists of land bounded to the east by the Adelaide River and whose western boundary lies the immediate west of the Stuart Highway which passes through the locality in a north–south alignment. This locality is named after Coomalie Creek, which flows through the locality, and whose name is considered to be corruption of the aboriginal name, Gumili. Its boundaries and name were gazetted on 29 October 1997. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Coomalie Creek had 20 people living within its boundaries. Coomalie Creek is located within the federal division of Lingiari, the territory electoral division of Daly and within the local government area of the Coomalie Shire. History Railway Birdum was the terminus of the North Australia Railway from 1929 until the outbreak of World War II.
