Nitro (film)
''Nitro'' is a 2007 Canadian action drama film, directed by Alain DesRochers and co-written with Benoît Guichard which was released theatrically on June 29, 2007, exclusively in Quebec. Due to its popularity in its opening weekend, it ranked fifth at the Canadian box office. A sequel film, '' Nitro Rush'', was released in 2016. Plot Max ( Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge) is a former Montreal-based illegal street racer who is forced to return to his criminal past when his girlfriend (Myriam Tallard) requires a heart transplant with Morgane ( Lucie Laurier), a female drag racer who assists Max in his quest to locate a suitable organ for his girlfriend's surgery. Alain DesRochers
Alain Desrochers is a Canadian film director and screenwriter. Desrochers studied first at St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu College in the early 1980s and then at Concordia University earning himself a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the end of the decade. He began his career by directing music videos and television commercials. He got his big break directing several episodes of the TV series '' The Hunger''. His first feature film ''La Bouteille'' (2000) earned him a nomination for the Genie Award for Best Achievement in Direction. His second feature, the action film ''Nitro'', was very successful at the Quebec box office and beat out several American blockbusters in its opening weekend. The Prix Iris for Best Hair () is an annual film award, presented by Québec Cinéma as part of its Prix Iris awards program, to honour the year's best hairstyling in films made within the Cinema of Quebec. The award was presented for the first time at the 7th Jutra Awards in 2005. Prior to its creation, hairstylists could receive nominations in the Best Makeup category. Until 2016, it was known as the Jutra Award for Best Hair in memory of influential Quebec film director Claude Jutra. Hairstylist Martin Lapointe has dominated the category, holding the record for most nominations with fifteen. Prix Iris
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous for its use of banjo. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. ''The Daily Gleaner'' is a morning daily newspaper serving the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the upper Saint John River Valley. The paper was printed Monday through Saturday, until dropping to Tuesday through Saturday in 2022 and announced it would only publish the printed copy three days a week starting March 2023. Daily news coverage continues online. It began operating in 1880. In April 2006, the paper switched from afternoon to morning publication. The offices of the ''Daily Gleaner'' are located on Alison Boulevard on the city's south side. K.C. Irving bought it in 1968 from Michael Wardell, who had owned it since 1950. In 2022, Brunswick News was acquired by Postmedia. The paper has its roots in the earlier paper ''The Gleaner and Northumberland Schediasma'', started in 1829.
