Nir Malhi
Nir Malhi (; born 1955 in Hatzerim, kibbutz Hatzerim) is an Israeli martial arts teacher, founder of ''Cheng Ming Israel''. Malhi served in Shayetet 13, the Israeli naval commando unit. He began his study of Karate in an early age and after his army service he went abroad to study it further. He practiced Karate, Kendo and Tai Chi, and reached the high levels in all of them. In 1980 while living in Japan, Malhi became a student of Wang Fulai who in turn had been a student of Wang Shujin. On returning to Israel, Malhi established ''Cheng Ming Israel'' (the Israeli Tai Chi Center). Today this school has hundreds of students and many branches all over Israel. Malhi was diagnosed with severe cancer in 2002, likely as a result of diving in the polluted Kishon River during his military service. At the time, the doctors gave him only several months to live. Kishon River
The Kishon River (, ; , – ''the intermittent river''; alternative Arabic, ) is a river in Israel that flows into the Mediterranean Sea near the city of Haifa. Course The Kishon River is a perennial stream in Israel. Its furthest source is the Gilboa mountains, and it flows in a west-northwesterly direction through the Jezreel Valley, emptying into the Haifa Bay in the Mediterranean Sea. Its drainage basin, of , includes much of Jezreel Valley and the Western Galilee, and parts of Mount Carmel. Ami Ayalon
Amichai "Ami" Ayalon (, born 27 June 1945) is an Israeli politician and a former member of the Knesset for the Labor Party. He was previously head of the Shin Bet, Israel's secret service, and commander-in-chief of the Navy. He came in second to Ehud Barak in a Labor party leadership election in June 2007 and was appointed a Minister without Portfolio in September 2007. He is one of the recipients of Israel's highest decoration, the Medal of Valor. Military and security career Ayalon served his entire military service in the Israeli Navy. Ayalon enlisted in 1963 and volunteered for the Shayetet 13 navy commando unit. In 1969, he participated in Operation Bulmus 6—the assault on fortified Green Island, Egypt (jointly with Sayeret Matkal). During the operation, he threw a grenade into one of the radar positions, and provided cover for other soldiers in the force. Rony Kluger
Rony Kluger (; born 1952 in Budapest) is an Israeli budoka, teacher, lecturer and educator. He is certified as Hanshi, Ku Dan, in both Okinawan Gōjū-ryū Karate Do and Kobudo, by the Sho Honbu Jun Do Kan Okinawa Karate Do organization and the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai. He is a Ph.D. (Education Management) and is one of the founders of the International Budo Academy. Kluger began his study of Karate with Meir Yahel in 1970, and later in 1972 became a student of the late Leon Pantanowitz, who in turn had been a student of and belonged to Morio Higaonna's organization. In 1984, Kluger parted ways with Pantanowitz, and became a student in Eiichi Miyazato's Dojo, the historical Jun Do Kan. Kluger's main Dojo (Honbu Dojo), which he founded in 1972, resides in Petah Tikva. The school has branches in several cities in Israel, as well as in Hungary, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain and Romania. Eli Cohen (politician Born 1949)
Eli Cohen (; born 29 May 1949) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 2002 and 2003. He was subsequently Israel's ambassador to Japan from 2004 until 2007. Biography Cohen was born in Jerusalem to a family who immigrated to Israel from Tunisia. He studied mathematics and physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, gaining a BA and his MBA degree from the University of West London. He served as a Betar emissary to North America and director of the Settlement Department of the World Zionist Organization. Political and diplomatic career A former deputy head of the Ma'ale Adumim council, he was placed 23rd on the Likud list for the 1999 elections, but missed out on a seat as the party won only 19 seats. Haifa International Film Festival
The Haifa International Film Festival () is an annual film festival that takes place every autumn (between late September and late October), during the week-long holiday of Sukkot, in Haifa, Israel. History The festival was inaugurated in 1983 and was the first of its kind in Israel. Over the years, it has become the country's major cinematic event. The Haifa International Film Festival attracts a wide audience of film-goers and media professionals from Israel and abroad. Throughout the week, special screenings are held of c.170 new films. Apart from movies screened around the clock at seven theaters, the festival features open-air screenings.
