''Nintendo Power'' was a video game news and strategy magazine from Nintendo of America, first published in July/August 1988 as Nintendo's official print magazine for North America. The magazine's publication was initially done monthly by Nintendo of America, then independently, and in December 2007 contracted to Future US, the American subsidiary of British publisher Future plc. Its 24-year production run is one of the longest of all video game magazines in the United States and Canada. On August 21, 2012, Nintendo announced that it would not be renewing its licensing agreement with Future Publishing, and that ''Nintendo Power'' would cease publication in December. The final issue, volume 285, was released on December 11, 2012. On December 20, 2017, a podcast version of ''Nintendo Power'' was launched, which ran until 2023. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit home video game console developed and marketed by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan on 15 July 1983 as the and was later released as the redesigned NES in several test markets in the United States beginning on 18 October 1985, followed by a nationwide launch on 27 September 1986. The NES was distributed in Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia throughout the 1980s under various names. As a third-generation console, it mainly competed with Sega's Master System. Chuck Norris
Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940) is an American martial artist and actor. Born in Oklahoma, Norris first gained fame when he won the amateur Middleweight Karate champion title in 1968, which he held for six consecutive years. He subsequently moved to Los Angeles to teach martial arts, where his students included Steve McQueen, Donny Osmond, and Priscilla Presley. Slime (Dragon Quest)
are a fictional species of slime monster in the ''Dragon Quest'' role-playing video game franchise. Originally inspired by the game ''Wizardry'' to be a weak and common enemy for the 1986 video game ''Dragon Quest'', Slimes have appeared in almost every ''Dragon Quest'' game since. Their popularity led to the appearance of many varieties of Slimes, including boss characters, friendly allies, and even emerging as the protagonist of their own spinoff series. Howard Phillips (born January 23, 1958) is an American video game consultant and producer who was an early employee of and spokesman for Nintendo of America in the 1980s. Initially a boat painter, Phillips started his video game career as manager of Nintendo of America's first Tukwila, Washington, Tukwila warehouse in 1981. He managed relations with the retail sites of the 1985 History of the Nintendo Entertainment System#Redesign as the Nintendo Entertainment System (1985), test launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System, gaining insight into which games were popular.
