Nina Miglionico
Nina Miglionico (September 14, 1913 – May 6, 2009) was an American lawyer and clubwoman in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the first woman to serve on the Birmingham City Council, where she held a seat from 1963 to 1985. Early life Miglionico was born in Birmingham, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Miglionico. Her parents were both born in Italy, and ran a delicatessen. She attended Howard College (now known as Samford University), graduating in 1933. She earned her law degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1936, one of five women in her graduating class. Career In 1958, Miglionico was elected president of the National Association of Women Lawyers. She also served on the tax committee of the American Bar Association. As a tax expert, she served on the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, and was appointed to the President's Commission on the Status of Women. Birmingham ( ) is a city in the north central region of the U.S. state of Alabama. Birmingham is the seat of Jefferson County, Alabama's most populous county. As of the 2021 census estimates, Birmingham had a population of 197,575, down 1% from the 2020 Census, making it Alabama's third-most populous city after Huntsville and Montgomery.
