Nikolina Shtereva
Nikolina Pavlova Shtereva ( bg, Николина Павлова Щерева; born 25 January 1955) is a retired Bulgarian middle-distance runner who specialised in the 800 and 1500 metres. She is best known for her silver medal in 800 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and at the European Indoor Championships she won gold medals in 1976 and 1979 and a bronze medal in 1981. She won fourteen national titles (outdoor; as well as seven indoor) in Bulgaria, and is still the Bulgarian record holder in the 800 metres. International career She was born in Sofia, and represented the club CSKA Septemvrisko Zname during her career. In the 1970s and 1980s she was a prolific competitor at the European Indoor Championships. She finished sixth at the 1975 European Indoor Championships, clocking in only 2:20.3 seconds, but then won the gold medal at the 1976 European Indoor Championships. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. Totka Nikolaeva Petrova ( bg, Тотка Петрова, born 17 December 1956) is a retired female middle distance runner who represented Bulgaria in the 1970s and the early 1980s. She specialized in the 800 and 1500 metres, and won numerous international medals. She is still the Bulgarian 1500 metres record holder. Career She was born in Yambol, and represented the club Tundzha Yambol. She won silver medals at the 1977 and 1978 European Indoor Championships. In 1977 she was only 0.05 seconds behind the gold medallist Jane Colebrook. Also, she continued a strong tradition of Bulgarian 800 metres runners, who had taken medals at the previous European Indoor Championships in 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1976. Rositsa Pekhlivanova ( bg, Росица Пехливанова, born 31 January 1955) is a retired Bulgarian middle-distance runner who specialized in the 1500 metres. She was born in Sliven, and represented the clubs Sliven, Levski-Spartak Club and Tundzha Yambol during her career. She won the bronze medal in the 800 metres at the 1975 European Indoor Championships, losing out to the silver medalist by only 0.1 seconds. The next year she won the bronze medal in 1500 metres at the 1976 European Indoor Championships. She was only 0.1 seconds behind the silver medalist Natalia Mărășescu, but beat the fourth placer with a full six seconds. She competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics without reaching the final. In round one, only the top four runners in each of the initial heats progressed, and Pekhlivanova finished sixth in her heat with 4:13.11 minutes. Stefka Yordanova
Stefka Yordanova ( bg, Стефка Йорданова; 9 January 1947 – 16 January 2011) was a Bulgarian sprinter and middle-distance runner who specialized in the 400 and 800 metres. Born in Burgas, she ran at the 1971 European Indoor Championships and won a bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay. She then won the 800 metres gold medal at the 1973 European Indoor Championships. In so doing, she broke the indoor 800 metres world record, beating fellow Bulgarian Svetla Zlateva's record that had been set a mere two weeks before. She became Bulgarian 400 metres champion in 1970. Yordanova died in Burgas in on January 16, 2011. |

Svetla Stefanova Zlateva ( bg, Светла Стефанова Златева; born 25 February 1952) is a retired Bulgarian sprinter and middle-distance runner who specialized in the 400 and 800 metres. She is a former world record holder in the latter event. In 1973, she was the winner of the first Balkan Athlete of the Year award. Career She was born in Gorna Oryahovitsa, and represented the club Levski Sofia. She finished sixth in the 800 metres at the 1970 European Indoor Championships. At the 1971 European Indoor Championships she finished fourth in the 400 metres and won a bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay. She then won the 800 metres bronze medal at the 1972 European Indoor Championships, finished fourth at the 1973 European Indoor Championships3 and again at the 1974 European Indoor Championships.
