Nicholas B. Vassilieve (; 26 November 1875 – 16 October 1958) was a Russian Architect, known for his works such as the Estonian Drama Theatre, German Theatre in Tallinn, or the Saint Petersburg Mosque in Saint Petersburg Biography Nicholas B. Vassilieve was born on 26th of November 1875 in the town of Uglich in the Pogorelki county of the Yaroslavl province, Governorate of Yaroslavl, His father, a native peasant, later became a member of the merchant class in St. Petersburg. Russia After completing his military service, Vassilieve joined the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Institute of Civil Engineers in 1896. Upon graduation in 1901, he received a silver medal "for architectural design". After the Institute, he entered the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, Russian Academy of Arts, where he studied in the studio Leon Benois. He graduated from the Academy in 1904. Uglich ( rus, У́глич, p=ˈuɡlʲɪtɕ) is a historic town in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, located on the Volga River. Population: History The city was first documented in 1148 as ''Ugliche Pole'' (''Corner Field''). The town's name is thought to allude to the nearby turn in the Volga River, and is derived from the Russian word ''ugol'' (a corner, a nook). Principality of Uglich From 1218 until 1328, Uglich was the seat of a small princedom. At that time, the local princes sold their rights to the great prince of Moscow. Uglich was a border town of the Grand Duchy of Moscow, and it was burned several times in conflicts by Lithuanians, Tatars, and the grand prince of Tver.
