Nikmat HaTraktor
Nikmat HaTraktor (Hebrew: נקמת הטרקטור, '' lit.'' Tractor's Revenge) is an Israeli rock music band. History Nikmat Hatraktor was established in 1988 in Tel Aviv by singer and bass player Avi Balali, keyboardist Ilan Green and guitarist Ophir Leibovitch. Other band members include Eyal Parson Shachar on keyboard and Aviv Barak on drums. The band's name is an ode to the "famous" FortiSakharof (another Israeli rock band) song of the same name that was released that year. After being rejected by a number of record labels, the band was finally signed by Nana Records. Their debut album, Nikmat HaTraktor, was released in 1990. It was produced by Bari Sacharof (of the aforementioned band FortiSakharof), and contained a number of their hits, the prominent ones including: Mischak Shel Dma'ot (משחק של דמעות, lit. Simon Dupree And The Big Sound
Simon Dupree and the Big Sound were a British psychedelic band formed in 1966 by brothers Derek ( vocals), Phil (vocals, saxophone, trumpet), and Ray Shulman ( guitar, violin, trumpet, vocals); also known for their later prog rock band, Gentle Giant. Career They started as The Howling Wolves and then became The Road Runners, playing R&B around the Portsmouth area, home of the Shulman brothers, becoming Simon Dupree and the Big Sound in early 1966. Batsheva Dance Company
The Batsheva Dance Company (Hebrew: להקת בת שבע) is a renowned dance company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was founded by Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild in 1964. Its inception was inspired by Israel's growing interest in American modern dance, mainly Martha Graham and Anna Sokolow. Classes in Graham technique were offered at the time, some taught by Rina Schenfeld and Rena Gluck, who were the company's principal dancers for many years. Bethsabee de Rothschild withdrew her funding in 1975, and the company gradually shed the Graham aesthetic that had dominated its early years. Knesiyat Hasekhel (from Hebrew: "''The Mind Church''") is an Israeli rock band from Sderot. History The name of the band, established in the early 1990s, is a translation into Hebrew of ''Church of Reason'', from Robert Pirsig's book ''Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance''. The music is a blend of new wave music and post-punk influences (particularly Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) and Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ethnic rock. Kites (song)
"Kites" is a ballad written by Hal Hackady and Lee Pockriss. It was first recorded by the Rooftop Singers as their last single in 1967. The song then became a hit for Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, a group of the Shulman brothers, who went on to form the progressive rock band Gentle Giant. Their first releases had not been successful and they looked to their manager, John King, for inspiration. He suggested "Kites", which he had obtained from Robbins' Music. It was not their preferred style but King insisted. The song was recorded at Abbey Road using unconventional instruments such as a wind machine and included a spoken interlude in Chinese, composed of "sweet nothings" and performed by the actress Jacqui Chan, a friend of the band. Berry Sakharof ( he, ברי סחרוף, ; born 7 July 1957) is an Israeli rock guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. Sakharof is one of Israel's most popular and critically acclaimed rock musicians, and is often referred to as "the prince of Israeli rock". Biography Sakharof was born in İzmir, Turkey, in 1957 into a Jewish family. His family immigrated to Israel when he was 3 years old. Start of career Sakharof started his musical career at the age of 16 as a member of Cosmic Dream. Another member was his friend, Rami Fortis. Together they performed in rock clubs in Israel. 1980s Sakharof first came to public attention in the 1980s.
