Niklas Kokko
Niklas Kokko (born 14 March 2004) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted in the second round, 58th overall, by the Kraken in the 2022 NHL entry draft. Playing career Liiga Oulun Kärpät Kokko played junior hockey with Oulun Kärpät's under-20 team in the SM-sarja, starting in the 2018–19 season. He was chosen as the player of the month for February 2022. Kokko then joined Kärpät's SM-Liiga team, forming a tandem with Joel Blomqvist in the 2021–22 season. He won his first and only Liiga game of the season on 19 November 2021, away against JYP Jyväskylä, when Kokko replaced Stanislav Galimov in the Kärpät goal at 58:50. Seattle Kraken
The Seattle Kraken are a professional ice hockey team based in Seattle. The Kraken compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference and began play during the league's 2021–22 season. Tappara (; Finnish for "Battle axe") is a Finnish professional ice hockey team playing in the Liiga. They play at '' Tampere Deck Arena'' in Tampere, Finland. Tomi Karhunen (born 29 October 1989) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently playing with SC Bern of the National League (NL). Playing career Karhunen made his SM-liiga debut playing with Oulun Kärpät during the 2010–11 SM-liiga season. At the end of the 2011–12 campaign, he joined HC Slovan Bratislava on loan, helping the team capture the Slovak championship. He won the Finnish SM-liiga title with Kärpät in 2014 and 2015. The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), or simply the "World Juniors" in ice hockey circles, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world. Ilves (; Finnish for "Lynx") is a Finnish professional ice hockey team based in Tampere. They play in the Liiga at the Tampere Deck Arena. The colors of Ilves, green, yellow, and black, were taken from what was then the coat of arms of the city of Tampere. Niclas Westerholm (born 13 August 1997) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with Oulun Kärpät in the Liiga. Playing career Undrafted, Westerholm played junior hockey in his native Finland with Karhu-Kissat through to the under 20 level. After spending a single season in North America playing high school hockey with Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl High in the Minnesota State High School League in the 2015–16 season, Westerholm returned to Finland in signing with top flight club, SaiPa of the Liiga. 2023–24 Liiga Season
The 2023–24 Liiga season was the 49th season of the Liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since its formation in 1975. Format The regular season started on Tuesday, 12 September 2023, with a match between Rauman Lukko and Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho in Rauma. The match was the only one of the day. As in previous seasons, 450 matches will be played in the regular season, 60 for each team. There are 25 full rounds of seven matches played, 16 of which are on Saturdays. A little more than half of the regular season, 262 matches, are played on Fridays and Saturdays. Most weekday games are played on Wednesdays (98). There were a total of 106 game days in the regular season, i.e. eight less than in the previous season. Two-way Contract
A two-way contract is a professional sports contract that stipulates that an athlete's salary is dependent upon the league in which the athlete is assigned to play. This is opposed to a one-way contract that would pay the same salary regardless of where the athlete is assigned to play. 2022–23 Mestis Season
The 2022–23 Mestis season was the 23rd season of Mestis, the second highest level of ice hockey in Finland after Liiga. This season there was 14 teams when the Latvian team HK Zemgale/LLU joined Mestis.
