Nike Global Challenge
The Nike Global Challenge was an annual men's prep basketball tournament held in the Portland metropolitan area during the summer. Sponsored by Nike, Inc., games were usually played at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon. The tournament started in 2007 and has featured high school players such as John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Avery Bradley, Austin Rivers, and Anthony Davis. High school-aged players from around the world play on all-star teams for each of the countries represented. The United States makes up three of the eight teams in the sixteen game tournament. History The event was established in 2007 with the first set of games held at the Chiles Center at the University of Portland in Oregon. The next year the tournament was moved to Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon, where it remained through 2011. In 2012, the tournament was played in Washington, DC. Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. (born March 11, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He plays the power forward and center positions. Davis is an eight-time NBA All-Star and has been named to four All-NBA First Teams and four NBA All-Defensive Teams. In his first season with the Lakers, he won an NBA championship in 2020. In 2021, he was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. Davis is regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time. Nike Hoop Summit
The Nike Hoop Summit is an international men's basketball all-star game sponsored by Nike, held once a year since 1995, except from 2001–2003, which features the USA Basketball Men's Junior Select Team against a World Select Team of international players. The players demonstrate their skills and hope to attract attention from either NBA scouts or colleges. A number of current NBA players have participated in this event in the past. In the 2010 edition of the event, Enes Kanter scored 34 points and surpassed the event's record of 33 points set by Dirk Nowitzki in 1998. In 2012, Shabazz Muhammad scored 35 points to break Kanter's scoring record. Chiles Center
The Earle A. & Virginia H. Chiles Center is a 4,852-seat multi-purpose arena in Portland, Oregon, USA. The arena opened in 1984. It is home to the University of Portland Pilots men's and women's basketball teams as well as the women's volleyball team. It hosted the West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament in 1992 and 2007. The arena is also used as for other athletic tournaments as well as for concerts and other special events such as high school graduations. It contains of arena floor space. Austin James Rivers (born August 1, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Rivers led Winter Park High School to back-to-back Florida 6A state championships in 2010 and 2011. He also played in the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit for the Team USA, and was a McDonald's All-American.
