Nighttime Stories
''Nighttime Stories'' is the sixth studio album by American post-metal band Pelican. The album was released on June 7, 2019, through Southern Lord Records. In April 2019, Pelican released the song "Midnight and Mescaline" as a digital and 7-inch single. Background The band members lived in Chicago and Los Angeles at this time which required scheduling of group performances. Among various methods used in writing the music on the album the band used the online file storage hosting service Dropbox to store song ideas and guitar riffs. Using this method for a long period of time led guitarist Trevor de Brauw to think that he was left out of the writing process for the track "Full Moon, Black Water" which was arranged by guitarist Dallas Thomas and drummer Larry Herweg into a complete song. He later learned that some of the riffs were written by him and stored in the bands dropbox account and were used by Thomas to compose the song. De Brauw and Herweg were in an experimental grind ... Pelican (band)
Pelican is an American post-metal band from Chicago, Illinois. Established in 2001, the band is known for their atmospheric and almost entirely instrumental style. They have released six studio albums and six EPs. History and style The band is known for dense combinations of different melodies and extended track lengths. It may be classified as stoner rock, doom metal, or post-rock. Larry Herweg, Trevor de Brauw, and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec are also three members of the band Tusk. Pelican were first affiliated with Hydra Head Records but by 2009 signed with Southern Lord Records roster. Pelican toured with Wolves in the Throne Room to support their first EP for Southern Lord, ''Ephemeral'', released on June 6, 2009. '' What We All Come to Need'' was released on October 27, 2009. Greg Anderson and Aaron Turner both appeared on the album. In celebration of the new album, the "Pelican Burger" was served at Kuma's Corner for one night. Potentiometer
A potentiometer is a three- terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider. If only two terminals are used, one end and the wiper, it acts as a variable resistor or rheostat. The measuring instrument called a potentiometer is essentially a voltage divider used for measuring electric potential (voltage); the component is an implementation of the same principle, hence its name. Potentiometers are commonly used to control electrical devices such as volume controls on audio equipment. It is also used in speed control of fans. Passivity (engineering)
Passivity is a property of engineering systems, most commonly encountered in analog electronics and control systems. Typically, analog designers use ''passivity'' to refer to incrementally passive components and systems, which are incapable of Gain (electronics), power gain. In contrast, control systems engineers will use ''passivity'' to refer to thermodynamically passive ones, which consume, but do not produce, energy.
