Night On My Side
''Night on My Side'' is the debut album by Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes, first released by Source Records on 24 May 2002 in the Republic of Ireland, 27 May 2002 in the United Kingdom, and 10 July 2002 in Japan. The album's release in North America was delayed until 22 April 2003, where it was released by Astralwerks Records with a different track listing and album artwork. The album was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize but lost out to Ms. Dynamite's ''A Little Deeper''. Background Following the release of two acclaimed EPs in 2001 ('' 4.35am'' and '' Work to a Calm''), Hayes returned to record her debut album at Tarbox Road Studios in New York City and Black Box Studios in France, with some of the original demos previously recorded in Dublin. The album was produced by Dave Fridmann and David Odlum. Hayes later forged a relationship with Odlum who continues to work with her to this day. Gemma Hayes
Gemma Hayes (born 11 August 1977) is an Irish musician, singer-songwriter and composer. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments, including the piano and the harmonica. She is also a member of The Cake Sale, Printer Clips and Trio (with Lisa Hannigan and Paul Noonan). Early life Hayes grew up in Ballyporeen, County Tipperary with her parents and seven other siblings. She was surrounded by music from an early age heavily influenced by her siblings and her father who was a keyboardist in a local band. Hayes would later move to County Limerick to attend boarding school. By this time, Hayes was proficient at piano and found that the music used to counter the boredom of living in a small village. RTÉ Radio
RTÉ Radio is a division and service of Irish public broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), which broadcasts four analogue channels and five digital channels across Ireland. Founded in January 1926 as 2RN, was the first broadcaster in the Irish Free State, in 1932 a 60-kw transmitter was set up in Athlone to cover a major event - the 1932 Eucharistic Congress. Counting Crows is an American rock band from the San Francisco Bay Area, California. David Odlum
David Odlum is an Irish music producer, engineer, guitarist, and drummer who has worked and played with Academy Award winners and Mercury Prize nominees. Originally a member of Kíla, a band which was founded during his schooldays at Coláiste Eoin, he left them and joined rock group The Frames, fronted by the Academy Award-winner Glen Hansard, and with whom he played guitar from 1990 until 2002. Since leaving the band, he has pursued a career as a music producer.
