Gemma Hayes
Gemma Hayes (born 11 August 1977) is an Irish musician, singer-songwriter and composer. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments, including the piano and the harmonica. She is also a member of The Cake Sale, Printer Clips and Trio (with Lisa Hannigan and Paul Noonan). Early life Hayes grew up in Ballyporeen, County Tipperary with her parents and seven other siblings. She was surrounded by music from an early age heavily influenced by her siblings and her father who was a keyboardist in a local band. Hayes would later move to County Limerick to attend boarding school. By this time, Hayes was proficient at piano and found that the music used to counter the boredom of living in a small village. She would later move to Dublin, Dublin City to attend University College Dublin, UCD to study sociology, psychology and history. Ballyporeen
Ballyporeen () is a village in County Tipperary, Ireland. The 2016 census recorded a village population of 318. Location It lies in the Galtee-Vee Valley with the Galtee Mountains to the north and the Knockmealdowns to the south. The River Duag which is a tributary of the Suir runs through the village. It is located on the R665 regional road. The nearest large towns are Mitchelstown and Cahir, which are 12 km and 21 km respectively. The village is approximately 11 km from Junction 12 of the M8 Motorway. Transport During the week, it is served five times a day in each direction by Bus Éireann route 245 linking it to Clonmel, Mitchelstown, Fermoy and Cork. ''Night on My Side'' is the debut album by Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes, first released by Source Records on 24 May 2002 in the Republic of Ireland, 27 May 2002 in the United Kingdom, and 10 July 2002 in Japan. The album's release in North America was delayed until 22 April 2003, where it was released by Astralwerks Records with a different track listing and album artwork. The album was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize but lost out to Ms. Dynamite's ''A Little Deeper''. Background Following the release of two acclaimed EPs in 2001 ('' 4.35am'' and '' Work to a Calm''), Hayes returned to record her debut album at Tarbox Road Studios in New York City and Black Box Studios in France, with some of the original demos previously recorded in Dublin. David Odlum
David Odlum is an Irish music producer, engineer, guitarist, and drummer who has worked and played with Academy Award winners and Mercury Prize nominees. Originally a member of Kíla, a band which was founded during his schooldays at Coláiste Eoin, he left them and joined rock group The Frames, fronted by the Academy Award-winner Glen Hansard, and with whom he played guitar from 1990 until 2002. Since leaving the band, he has pursued a career as a music producer. Odlum has established a long running association with singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes, producing her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album ''Night on My Side'', as well as later albums '' The Hollow of Morning, '' Let It Break and an as-yet untitled fifth album due in 2014. Adam Fredric Duritz (born August 1, 1964) is an American singer, best known as the frontman for the rock band Counting Crows, for which he serves as a founding member and principal composer. Since its founding in 1991, Counting Crows has sold over 20 million records, released seven studio albums that have been certified gold or platinum, and been nominated for two Grammy Awards and an Academy Award. Duritz has recorded solo material of his own and has collaborated with other musical acts. He has also founded two record labels, ''E Pluribus Unum'' and ''Tyrannosaurus Records''. His work scoring music for film earned an award from BMI for co-writing the song " Accidentally in Love" for the movie ''Shrek 2''. Meteor Music Awards
A Meteor Ireland Music Award was an accolade bestowed upon professionals in the music industry in Ireland and further afield. They had been bestowed each year since 2001, replacing the IRMA Ireland Music Awards held in the 1990s. Promoted by MCD Productions, the ceremony at which these accolades were bestowed upon worthy recipients was referred to colloquially as The Meteors, though occasionally also by its full title. The Roads Don't Love You
''The Roads Don't Love You '' is the second album by Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes, released in the Republic of Ireland on 28 October 2005, 31 October 2005 in the United Kingdom, and 15 November 2005 in North America. In 2006, Gemma received a nomination for Best Irish Female at the 2006 Ireland Music Awards where she also performed live and picked up the award. The title is taken from a line in the Magnetic Fields song "Long Vermont Roads". During the tour supporting the release of ''The Roads Don't Love You'' in America, a short EP titled ''Sampler'' was released. The album was finally made available in the US as a download through iTunes in July 2014. Background and recording The recording of this album was heavily influenced by Hayes' move to Los Angeles. Magnet (musician)
Even Johansen also known as Magnet (born 7 June 1970) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. To date, he has released five full-length studio albums as well as several singles and EPs. Johansen draws upon many influences, including folk, pop, and electronica. His albums are composed and produced solely by him, and he usually performs live sets on his own, using preset loops or creating them as he plays. Biography Even Johansen was born, raised, and resides in Bergen, Norway, but he has also lived just outside the southern Scottish town of Lockerbie, where he recorded his ''On Your Side (Magnet), On Your Side'' album. The Montreux Jazz Festival (formerly Festival de Jazz Montreux and Festival International de Jazz Montreux) is a music festival in Switzerland, held annually in early July in Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline. It is the second-largest annual jazz festival in the world after Canada's Montreal International Jazz Festival. Initiator and head organizer Claude Nobs brought an array of artists to Montreux. Mathieu Jaton has organised the festival since Nobs' death in 2013.
