Night Shift (Irish TV Programme)
''Night Shift'' is an Irish television music programme. Like its sister show ''Day Shift'', it was one of Channel 6's Irish programme. It was launched with the network on Thursday, 30 March 2006. ''Night Shift'' was transmitted late at night and sometimes early on weekend mornings. The show was hosted by Michelle Doherty and featured the alternative music scene. In 2006, ''Night Shift'' was voted the favourite music programme by ''Hot Press'' magazine readers. The last show aired on 31 December 2008. Channel 6 was replaced by 3e on 1 January 2009. Despite only airing for two years, the show helped launch many new Irish bands such as Director. Programme producer Elton Mulally has produced televised coverage of the Choice Music Prize for RTÉ2. Virgin Media Two, also called Virgin Two, is an Republic of Ireland, Irish free-to-air television channel operated by Virgin Media Television (Republic of Ireland), Virgin Media Television (a subsidiary of Virgin Media Ireland). Irish Television
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. Michelle Doherty is an Irish radio/television presenter, model, actress, and DJ. She has presented various television shows including '' Xposé'', a daily entertainment/celebrity gossip TV show on ''TV3'' in Ireland, Arthur's Day, RTÉ Two television series '' Under Ether'', the weekday breakfast show, Pure Morning on Phantom FM now TXFM, and ''Night Shift'' and ''Day Shift'' on Channel 6 for a number of years before the closure of the station on 31 December 2008. State (magazine)
State.ie (formerly ''State Magazine'') was an Irish website and, before, a monthly music magazine. It launched in April 2008 and switched to online-only distribution in January 2009 after having published a total of ten issues. The magazine continued online until 2020, when that year's edition of its ''Faces'' series prominently mentioned the website having ceased publication. It enjoyed a good run and was voted Best Music Site in 2008 and Best Web Publication in 2010 in the Irish Web Awards. Originally, the concept of the magazine involved a hard copy of which there was a charge to purchase. However after six issues it was decided to make the magazine's content free both online and in print. The first issue, April 2008, appeared on Irish shelves on 6 March 2008 and featured Michael Stipe of R.E.M. on the cover. Director (band)
Director were an Irish art rock quartet from Malahide in County Dublin. The group consisted of Michael Moloney (vocals/guitars), Eoin Aherne (guitars), Shea Lawlor (drums) and Rowan Averill (bass guitar). The band's 2006 debut album '' We Thrive on Big Cities'' was a critical and commercial success in Ireland. A follow-up album, ''I'll Wait for Sound'' was released in 2009. Choice Music Prize
The Choice Music Prize (), known for sponsorship reasons as the RTÉ Choice Music Prize is an annual music prize awarded to music from a band or solo musician who is born in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland or holds an Irish passport. For bands, the majority of members must have been born on the island of Ireland or hold an Irish passport. After being broadcast on Today FM for nearly eleven years, in November 2016, it was announced that the Choice Music Prize would broadcast on RTÉ 2fm starting in 2017. The ceremony is held in Vicar Street, Dublin. Since it first began in 2005, the main awards ceremony had been broadcast live on the Irish national radio station, Today FM, every March. It aired as a four-part special, beginning at 7pm and usually concluding at 11pm. RTÉ2 (formerly branded as RTÉ 2 from 1978–88, Network 2 from 1988–97, N2 from 1997–2004 and RTÉ Two from 2004–14) is an Irish free-to-air television channel operated by public service broadcaster RTÉ.
