Strisores
Strisores ( ), sometimes called nightbirds, is a clade of birds that includes the living family (biology), families and order (biology), orders Caprimulgidae (nightjars, nighthawks and allies), Nyctibiidae (potoos), Steatornithidae (oilbirds), Podargidae (frogmouths), Apodiformes (swifts and hummingbirds), as well as the Aegotheliformes (owlet-nightjars) whose distinctness was only recently realized. The Apodiformes (which include the "Trochiliformes" of the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy) and the Aegotheliformes form the Apodimorphae, Daedalornithes. Description The material evidence for this group is very equivocal; the most ancient Strisores are quite nondescript tree-dwellers but already tend towards peculiarly apomorphic feet, and no Cretaceous fossils are known. Torpor and other metabolic peculiarities are frequently found in this group, perhaps more often than in any other bird lineage. The synapomorphies that define this clade are the ''ossa maxillaria'' separated by a large c ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

In a 1983 MTV interview, Nicks said "Nightbird" was her favorite song from the new album. Kalapana (band)
Kalapana is an American pop-rock band from Honolulu, Hawaii. They are known for their songs “Naturally” and “The Hurt”. History Early history (1973 – 1986) In 1973, childhood friends DJ Pratt and Malani Bilyeu auditioned at the Rainbow Villa for Cecilio & Kapono. Bilyeu was a solo performer at the Oar House in Hawaii Kai while Pratt was downstairs at Chuck’s in Sunlight with Kirk Thompson. They got together in Pratt’s grandfather’s garage with Mackey Feary, another solo act at the Oar House. They wrote songs, rehearsed, and at one point discussed the meaning of Kalapana. The literal translation of the word “Kalapana” is “sprouting money”. Thompson said the meaning was “beat of the music”, but he preferred the name “Dove” for the band. Pratt thought it meant “black sand”. Regardless, they named themselves Kalapana, playing their first gig at Chuck’s in Hawaii Kai. Kalapana became a regular band at a Honolulu club called The Toppe Ada Shoppe ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

History ''Nightbird'' received mixed reviews and was only a moderate commercial success, charting no higher than number 27 in UK. Despite the mixed critical reception, many longtime fans of the band hailed it as a return to the sound and feel of classic Erasure albums like '' Wonderland'' and ''Chorus''. Singer Andy Bell's revelation that he was HIV-positive just prior to the album's release shed new meaning on the songs' introspective and sometimes melancholy lyrics. The album's first single " Breathe" entered the UK Singles Chart at number four – Erasure's highest peak since " Always" hit number four in 1994. No singles from the album charted on the U.S. "Breathe" became Erasure's second number-one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart – their first being " Victim of Love" in 1987. A ...
