Niamey () is the capital and largest city of Niger. As the Niamey Urban Community (, CUN), it is a Regions of Niger, first-level division of Niger, surrounded by the Tillabéri Region, in the western part of the country. President Of Niger
This is a list of heads of state of Niger since the country gained independence from France in 1960 to the present day. A total of eleven people (not counting one acting) have served as head of state of Niger, all of them men and six of them military rulers. The current head of state of Niger is Abdourahamane Tchiani, the president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), a military junta established following a coup that overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum, on 26 July 2023; additionally, Tchiani was formally sworn in as president of the republic on 26 March 2025, for the term of five years. Abdourahamane Tchiani
Abdourahamane Tchiani (; born early 1960s) is a Nigerien military officer who has served as the 11th president of Niger since 2025 and the president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the military junta of Niger, since 2023. Having previously served as the Chief of the Nigerien Presidential guard (2011–2023), he played a key role in the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état by detaining President Mohamed Bazoum. His coup triggered the Nigerien crisis, which ended in 2024. Early life Tchiani was born in 1960, 1961, or 1964. He hails from Toukounous in the Tillabéri Region, a main recruitment area for the Nigerien army in the west of the country. He is a member of the Hausa people. Hausa Language
Hausa (; / ; Hausa Ajami, Ajami: ) is a Chadic language spoken primarily by the Hausa people in the northern parts of Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin and Togo, and the southern parts of Niger, and Chad, with significant minorities in Ivory Coast. Islam in Niger accounts for the vast majority of the Religion in Niger, nation's religious adherents. The faith is practiced by more than 99.3% of the population, although this figure varies by source and percentage of the population who are classified as Animist. Ali Lamine Zeine
Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine (born 1965) is a Nigerien politician and economist who has served as the prime minister of Niger since 2023. He previously served as minister of the Economy and Finance from 2003 to 2010. Biography Ali Lamine Zeine was born in 1965 in Zinder and graduated from the Centre for Financial, Economic and Banking Studies in Marseille and Paris-I. He worked as a resident representative of the African Development Bank in Chad, Ivory Coast and Gabon. After serving as Director of the Cabinet of President Mamadou Tandja, Zeine was appointed to the government as Minister of the Economy and Finance on 24 October 2003. In 2009, a newspaper editor, Boussada Ben Ali, alleged that Zeine had stolen money that was part of an oil contract between Niger and China. The Honor of the Fatherland ( French "L'Honneur de la Patrie") is the national anthem of Niger. It was adopted on June 23, 2023, replacing '' La Nigerienne'', which was adopted in 1961, a year after the country's gaining of independence. Salifou Modi (; born 12 October 1962) is a Nigerien Army divisional general who is the vice-president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the military junta of Niger. He served as the Chief of staff of the Armed Forces of Niger from 2020 to 2023. On 1 June 2023, he was appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. Following the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état, Modi was named as vice-president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the official name for the military junta.
