Nigel Ellis (born 8 August 1997) is a Jamaican sprinter. He represented his country in the 100 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games reaching the semifinals. He also won a bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 2016 World U20 Championships. Saint James Parish, Jamaica
St. James is a suburban parish, located on the north-west end of the island of Jamaica in the county of Cornwall. Its capital is Montego Bay (derived from the Spanish word ''manteca'' (lard) because many wild hogs were found there, from which lard was made). Montego Bay was officially named the second city of Jamaica, behind Kingston, in 1981, although Montego Bay became a city in 1980 through an act of the Jamaican Parliament. The parish is the birthplace of the Right Excellent Samuel Sharpe (died 1833), one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes. 2014 CARIFTA Games
The 2014 CARIFTA Games were held from April 19–21, 2014 at the Stade d'Honneur de Dillon, Stade Pierre Aliker in Fort-de-France, Martinique. A detailed report of the event was given for the IAAF. For the first time, the youth competition was open for athletes aged under-18 rather than under-17. The event served as regional trials for the athletics competitions at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. The men's 100 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as part of the athletics programme, took place in the Carrara Stadium on 8 and 9 April 2018. Akani Simbine of South Africa won the gold medal, running a time of 10.03 seconds in the final. Akani Simbine won his first international 100 m title, delivering an upset over Yohan Blake – the second fastest man on the all-time lists who stumbled in the final after leading the semi-finals on time. Henricho Bruintjies, Simbine's compatriot who had entered the final as the slowest of the qualifiers, split the men to win silver. Athletics At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Athletics was one of ten core sports that appeared at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognized precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The competition took place between Sunday 8–15 April 2018 at the Carrara Stadium. The programme featured an expanded event set for para-athletes with a total of six men's and six women's events, re presenting doubling of the number para-events at the previous games.
