Nicole Rancourt
Nicole Rancourt is a Canadian politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 2016 to 2020, representing the riding of Prince Albert Northcote. She was elected in the 2016 provincial election as a member of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party. She defeated Saskatchewan Party incumbent Victoria Jurgens with a majority of 261 votes. In the 2020 Saskatchewan general election, she was unseated by Alana Ross. In 2008, Rancourt was awarded the Rebel With A Cause award from the Elizabeth Fry Society for her work with incarcerated women. In 2023, she was named to the Women's Hall of Fame by the Prince Albert Council of Women. She is running for her old seat in the 2024 Saskatchewan general election. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. The name was changed to the Saskatchewan Grain Growers' Association (SGGA) when Saskatchewan became a province in 1905. 2024 Saskatchewan General Election
The 2024 Saskatchewan general election will be held on or before October 28, 2024, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. Background Since 2010, the Legislative Assembly has had a fixed four-year term. According to the 2019 amendment to the Legislative Assembly Act, 2007, "the first general election after the coming into force of this subsection must be held on Monday, October 26, 2020". Subsequent elections, must occur "on the last Monday of October in the fourth calendar year after the last general election". However, the act also provides that if the election period would overlap with a federal election period, the provincial election is to be postponed until the first Monday of the following April; in this case: April 7, 2025. The fixed election law does not infringe on the Lieutenant Governor's right to dissolve the Legislative Assembly at an earlier date on the Premier's advice. The 2020 Saskatchewan general election was held on October 26, 2020 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. This date is set by Saskatchewan's fixed election date law. The writ was dropped on September 29 just in time to hold the election on October 26. The previous election re-elected the Saskatchewan Party to its third consecutive majority government under the leadership of Brad Wall. On August 10, 2017, Wall announced his resignation as leader, pending the election of his successor. On January 27, 2018, Environment Minister Scott Moe was elected leader of the Saskatchewan Party. Prince Albert is the third-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada, after Saskatoon and Regina. It is situated near the centre of the province on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe. The party was established in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal party members and supporters who sought to remove the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) from power.
