Nicole Kosta
Nicole Kosta (born February 27, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Boston Fleet of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She previously played for the Connecticut Whale of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and the Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). She played college ice hockey at Quinnipiac. Early life Kosta was born to Steve and Kim Kosta, and has one older brother, Jeff. She attended St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School where she played four sports, including basketball, hockey, soccer and softball. College career Kosta began her collegiate career at Quinnipiac during the 2011–12 season. During her freshman year, she recorded eight goals and 25 assists in 34 games. PWHL Boston
The Boston Fleet are a professional ice hockey team based in the Greater Boston area that competes in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). They are one of the six charter franchises of the league. The team plays its home games at Tsongas Center. The 2018–19 CWHL season was the 12th and final season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Clarkson Cup
The Clarkson Cup () is an ice hockey trophy awarded to Canada's national women's champions. Commissioned by former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, the trophy was first unveiled in July 2006 when Clarkson ceremoniously presented it to the Canadian national women's team. Owing to a rights dispute with the artists who designed the trophy, it was not officially awarded until 2009, when it became, as intended, the award for the top women's club team. From 2012 to 2019, it was exclusively awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). In Canada, it has been considered the women's equivalent of the Stanley Cup. Laura Stacey
Laura Rachel Stacey (born May 5, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Montreal Victoire, and a member of Canada women's national ice hockey team. She previously played with the Markham Thunder and the Dartmouth Big Green and competed internationally with the Canadian under-18 and under-22 teams. She won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics and a gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Playing career Stacey represented Team Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The 2018 Clarkson Cup was held at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on 25 March 2018 with the Markham Thunder defeating the Kunlun Red Star WIH, Kunlun Red Star by a score of 2–1. 2017–18 CWHL Season
The 2017–18 CWHL season is the 11th season of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. This is also the first season in which the teams pay their players a salary. It would also prove to be the final full season in which Brenda Andress served as commissioner of the league, tendering her resignation on July 18, 2019. Offseason On June 5, 2017, the league revealed at the Hockey Hall of Fame that it would expand into China with the Kunlun Red Star WIH, a women's team associated with the Kontinental Hockey League's Kunlun Red Star men's team. The recent expansions into China is aimed for developing their ice hockey teams for when Beijing hosts the 2022 Winter Olympics. Maine Black Bears Women's Ice Hockey
The Maine Black Bears women’s ice hockey team represents the University of Maine. The team plays their home games in Alfond Arena. The team's first year of play was in 1997–98. The Black Bears finished 6th in the 2019–2020 season, advancing to the semi-finals of the Hockey East tournament, before losing to the eventual champions Northeastern Huskies by a score of 1–3. Quinnipiac University ( ) is a private university in Hamden, Connecticut, United States. The university grants undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.
