Transat New York Vendée
The Transat New York Vendée - Les Sables d'Olonne is a solo transatlantic race aboard IMOCA 60 monohulls. It is part of the IMOCA Globe Series circuit. The 3,100 nautical miles route starts in New York City and finishes in Les Sables-d'Olonne, Vendée Region, France. This transatlantic, organised by SAEM Vendée, the organising company of the Vendée Globe. It is the last qualifying race for the solo tour around the world, without stopover and without assistance. Its first edition in 2016 saw the victory of Frenchman Jérémie Beyou aboard ''Maître Coq''. A second edition will take place in May 2024. History The race was created in 2015. The Fastnet Race is a biennial offshore yacht race organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) of the United Kingdom with the assistance of the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes and the City of Cherbourg in France. The race is named after the Fastnet Rock off southern Ireland, which the race course rounds. Jean Le Cam (born 27 April 1959 in Quimper, Finistère) is a French sailor. In 1981–82, he was a crewmember on Euromarché in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. Le Cam was crewman with Éric Tabarly and Michel Desjoyeaux, and won the '' Solitaire du Figaro'' in 1994, 1996, and 1999. He later took an interest in multihull ships. The Beneteau Figaro 2 or Beneteau Figaro II, officially designated as the Figaro Beneteau II, is a French sailboat that was designed by Marc Lombard as a one design, single-handed, off-shore racer for the Solitaire du Figaro race and first built in 2003. The boat and the race are named for the race's sponsor, the French newspaper Le Figaro. Kevin Escoffier
Kevin Escoffier is a French professional sailor born on 4 April 1980 in Saint-Malo, France and a resident of Lorient. He is an offshore sailor who has won the 2018 Volvo Ocean Race as a bowman onboard DongFeng and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe aboard PRB. In 2022-23, he initially skippered Holcim-PRB in The Ocean Race, before leaving the team amid a sexual misconduct probe. He is a member of the yacht club SN Baie St. Malo. Biography He studied Engineering for 3 years at EPF in Paris, 2 years at the École Polytechnique de Montréal and 8 months at the University of Maryland and now specializes in composite engineering. Samantha "Sam" Davies (born 23 August 1974 in Portsmouth) is an English yachtswoman. Personal life Davies went to school at Portsmouth High School and received a degree in mechanical engineering from St John's College, Cambridge. She now lives in Kerlin ( Trégunc), Brittany, France. She has a son, Ruben, whom she shares with her ex-partner, fellow offshore sailor Romain Attanasio. Foncia 2 is a IMOCA 60 class offshore racing monohull sailing yacht launched in 2010. Construction and modifications The boat was designed by Guillaume Verdier, VPLP design (Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost) with significant input also from Michel Desjoyeaux. It is an innovative hull, marked by a double chain and a bridge in "seagull wing", as well as bearing drifts. This sailboat is a second generation VPLP design. The boat was launched on a tight schedule, on 20 September 2010, just six months after the start of the project, at a cost of 3 million euros. The tight timescale was made possible by the collaboration build effort consisting of the Green Marine shipyards in Lymington GBR and JMV Industries in Cherbourg (FRA).
