Nicolas Huỳnh Văn Nghi
Nicolas Huỳnh Văn Nghi (1 May 1927 – 6 May 2015) was a Vietnamese Catholic prelate. He was Bishop of Phan Thiết from 1974 to 2005. Biography Born in Vĩnh Hội, Saigon, he was sent to the Issy-les-Moulineaux Seminary in France to complete his studies and was ordained a priest in June 1953 at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. He then returned to teach in his native country and was named pastor of Gò Vấp Parish (1961-1965) and Tân Định Parish (1965-1974). On 1 July 1974, the Holy See appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Saigon (present-day Ho Chi Minh City). On 11 August 1974, at the Notre-Dame Saigon, he was ordained ''Titular Bishop of Selsea'' by Cardinal Agnelo Rossi, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Notre-Dame de Paris ( ; meaning "Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris"), often referred to simply as Notre-Dame, is a Medieval architecture, medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité (an island in the River Seine), in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, France. Jean-Baptiste Phạm Minh Mẫn () (born 5 March 1934) is a Vietnamese cardinal in the Catholic Church and was the Archbishop of Hồ Chi Minh City from March 1998 to March 2014. Biography Early life Phạm Minh Mẫn was born in Cà Mau, Cochinchina, French Indochina. At the age of 5, his first cousin once removed, Father Francis Xavier Trương Bửu Diệp, came to visit him and his family and encouraged them to enroll him at La Salle Taberd School in Sài Gòn the next year, which would make him eligible to attend the minor seminary once he turned 10. Diệp also encouraged his mother to let him learn the Latin prayers and allow him become an altar boy. Education The family immediately followed Diệp's advice. Mẫn recalled that he would go alone the next morning to serve as an altar boy when Diệp would celebrate Mass. Paul Nguyễn Văn Bình
Paul Nguyễn Văn Bình (September 1, 1910 – July 1, 1995) was a Vietnamese prelate of the Catholic Church. He was the first Archbishop of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) from 1960 until his death in 1995. Biography Paul Bình was born on September 1, 1910, in Saigon, Vietnam. In 1922, he started to study at Sai Gon minor seminary. He was sent to Rome in 1932 to further his studies by Bishop Isidore-Marie-Joseph Dumortier, who was Vicar Apostolic of Saigon. He was ordained a priest on March 27, 1937, at the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. In 1943, he started teaching at the Saint Joseph Major Seminary in Saigon and was appointed as pastor of Cầu Đất parish in Da Lat in 1948. On September 20, 1955, he was appointed as Vicar Apostolic of Can Tho by Pope Pius XII and was consecrated by Pierre-Martin Ngô Đình Thục, Vicar Apostolic of Vĩnh Long on November 30 the same year at the Notre-Dame Saigon Cathedral. The Diocese of Phan Thiết () is a Roman Catholic diocese of Vietnam. On 25 July 2009, Pope Benedict XVI selected Monsignor Joseph Vũ Duy Thống as bishop, who served until his death in 2017. An apostolic administration in the Catholic Church is administrated by a prelate appointed by the pope to serve as the ordinary for a specific area. The Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (CEP; ) was a congregation (Roman Curia), congregation of the Roman Curia of the Catholic Church in Rome, responsible for Catholic missions, missionary work and related activities. A cardinal is a senior member of the clergy of the Catholic Church.
