Nicola Filacuridi
Nicola Filacuridi (Greek language, Greek: Νικόλαος Φυλακουρίδης, ''Nikólaos Phylakourídēs'') (Alexandria 1 June 1920 – Sydney 12 February 2009) was an Egyptian-born operatic tenor of Greece, Greek origin, who had an illustrious career in Italy in the 1950s. Filacuridi was born in Alexandria, Egypt into a family of Greek origin. He first studied in his native city with Ettore Cordone and made his debut at the Cairo Opera in 1945, as Turiddu in ''Cavalleria rusticana''. Shortly after this, he left for Italy to continue his studies with Federico Del Cupolo. He made his Italian stage debut in Savona, as La traviata, Alfredo, in 1949. The following year, he appeared at the Rome Opera as Maurizio in ''Adriana Lecouvreur''. Dialogues Of The Carmelites
' (, ''Dialogues of the Carmelites''), FP 159, is an opera in three acts, divided into twelve scenes with linking orchestral interludes, with music and libretto by Francis Poulenc, completed in 1956. Poulenc wrote the libretto for his second opera after the work of the same name by Georges Bernanos, itself based on '' The Song at the Scaffold'' by Gertrud von Le Fort. This is a fictionalized version of the story of the Martyrs of Compiègne, Carmelite nuns who, in 1794 during the closing days of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, were guillotined in Paris for refusing to renounce their vocation. The world première of the opera occurred (in Italian translation) on 26 January 1957 at La Scala in Milan. The première of the French-language version took place in Paris on 21 June 1957. Giuseppe Campora (September 30, 1923 – December 4, 2004) was an Italian operatic tenor. Early life Giuseppe Campora was born on September 30, 1923, in Tortona, Italy. Career Campora was a Puccinian tenor. In 1954 he was the dubbed voice for Nicolai Filacuridi as Pinkerton in the Carmine Gallone directed film of Madama Butterfly. Campora enjoyed successes in all the major theatres of Italy (including Maurizio in ''Adriana Lecouvreur'' with Magda Olivero at the Teatro alla Scala, 1958), as well as at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, where his performances of the 1950s and 1960s are still fondly remembered. Carmine Gallone (10 September 1885 – 11 March 1973) was an early Italian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, who was also controversial for his works of pro-Fascist propaganda and historical revisionism. Fedora Barbieri (4 June 1920 – 4 March 2003) was an Italian dramatic mezzo-soprano and actress. Barbieri was born in Trieste. She performed regularly in Florence for fifty years, and performed internationally through the years. She died, aged 82, in Florence. Career After studying singing with Federico Bugamelli and Luigi Toffolo, she won an audition at age twenty to enter the school of the Teatro Comunale in Florence, where she studied with Giulia Tess. Carlo Tagliabue
Carlo Pietro Tagliabue (January 13, 1898, in Mariano Comense – April 5, 1978, in Monza) was an Italian baritone. According to Tagliabue, his love for singing began at a young age, when his father would take him to performances at La Scala. Carlo would return singing arias in a baritone voice disproportionate to his age. He also failed his childhood choir class because he wanted to sing in a big voice and grand manner, while they required the typical boy treble voice. Around age 17 he began two years' study of music and singing under Corrado Mattioli, a teacher and director of the choral division of the Civiche Scuole popolari di Musica in Milan. Anna Moffo (June 27, 1932 – March 9, 2006) was an American opera singer, television personality, and actress. One of the leading lyric-coloratura sopranos of her generation, she possessed a warm and radiant voice of considerable range and agility. Noted for her physical beauty, she was nicknamed "La Bellissima". Winning a Fulbright scholarship to study in Italy, Moffo became popular there after performing leading operatic roles on three RAI television productions in 1956.
