Nickelodeon Iberia
Nickelodeon is a European pay television channel available in Spain and Portugal and operated by Paramount Networks EMEAA. The channel is aimed at children and teenagers. History During the 1990s Nickelodeon programming was licensed to various commercial broadcasters in Spain and Portugal. In Spain these aired on the paid television channel Canal+, before later being assigned to its spin-off channel Minimax which would launch a block dedicated to just Nickelodeon programming, while in Portugal these were licensed to commercial broadcaster SIC. The channel was launched in Spain on 27 March 1999 as a localised variant of American kids channel Nickelodeon, on Canal Satellite Digital. Like in the UK, Nickelodeon in Spain originally shared its signal with Comedy Central (at the time known as Paramount Comedy), until February 2005 when both channels were given their own signal. Comedy Central is a Spanish pay television channel owned by Paramount Global under its Paramount Networks EMEAA division. Comedy Central in Spain was launched on 1 March 1999. Like the British version of Comedy Central, the channel originally used the name Paramount Comedy and only broadcast from 7PM to 7AM, due to sharing its signal with Nickelodeon, but later on 1 February 2005 both channel gained independent signals. It launched on 1 September 1993, as a localised version of the American channel of the same name in the United Kingdom and launched in Ireland in 2004. Canal+ (Spanish TV Channel)
Canal+ was a Spanish commercial television channel operated by Sogecable, before its eventual sale to Telefónica. It was available on the digital satellite television and IPTV platform Movistar+. History Canal+ began its trial transmissions on June 8, 1990 and it launched as a regular channel on September 14 of the same year as a terrestrial channel in Spain. Similar to its French counterpart, the channel broadcast most of its content encrypted, forcing the usage of a decoder to view all programming on the channel properly. The Spanish version was already using the Nagravision encryption system at launch, while the French version would not implement it until two years later.
