Nick Jr. is a British/Irish pay television channel owned and operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia. The channel is aimed at preschool children. It is the first ever full-day preschool-oriented TV channel in the United Kingdom and all of Europe, having launched on 1 September 1999. History Nick Jr. was first broadcast in the UK and Ireland on 1 September 1993 during the daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on weekdays on Nickelodeon, though these hours varied over time, particularly when Nick Jr. aired in a breakfast slot in the school holidays (mostly summer time). Its programming was a mix of shows from the US version of Nick Jr. and other imported shows. Later in the block's existence, syndicated British children's programmes would be a main focus of the channel as well. Dave Benson Phillips (born 3 February 1965) is a British entertainer, comic, children's television presenter and wrestler. He has presented '' Playhouse Disney'' (1998–2006), '' Fun Song Factory'' (1994–1999), and the CBBC game show '' Get Your Own Back''. Career Benson Phillips became interested in showbusiness while working as an usher at the Polka Children's Theatre in Wimbledon, London, and began his career as an entertainer by busking and performing at children's parties. TMF (The Music Factory) was a music video and entertainment channel in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The channel was owned by Viacom International Media Networks and was originally a Dutch channel. Formed after the two other TMF stations, which were based in mainland Europe, the channel was created to counter against EMAP's The Hits channel (now 4Music) on the new free-to-air digital terrestrial television service Freeview in 2002, it later ceased broadcasting on 26 October 2009. Upon launch, TMF's description was "''TMF is designed to replicate the rhythms of the whole family, playing the best pop videos with the biggest pop stars to become the sound track to the British family life.''" ''The Backyardigans'' ( ) is an animated musical children's television series created by Janice Burgess for Nickelodeon. The series was written and recorded at Nickelodeon Animation Studio. It centers on five anthropomorphic animal neighbors who imagine themselves on fantastic adventures in their backyard. Each episode is set to a different musical genre and features four songs, composed by Evan Lurie with lyrics by McPaul Smith. The Backyardigans' adventures span many different genres and settings. MTV Extra
MTV Extra was a music channel by MTV Networks Europe, the channel first launched on 1 July 1999 on the Sky Digital platform, alongside MTV Base and VH1 Classic and was a mixture of music videos and repeats of MTV programming. Towards the end of the channel's life, programming was dropped and the channel showed solely music videos (under the "Pure Music" name), with MTV Dance in the evenings. MTV Dance was spun off into its own channel on 20 April 2001, and MTV Extra was renamed MTV Hits! (now MTV Hits) at 6am on 1 May 2001. MTV Extra is notable for being the only spin-off MTV channel to use the same song title graphics as its parent channel (although it had its own separate idents). Club MTV is a British electronic dance music channel operated by ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia launched on 20 April 2001 as MTV Dance. The channel plays dance, trance, clubhouse, electronica, drum and bass, rap, R&B, hip-hop, techno and house music. The channel closed on 20 July 2020 but was relaunched 5 years later on 14 April 2025, replacing MTV Hits.
