Nick Derba
Nicholas Joseph Derba (born November 9, 1985) is an American baseball coach and former catcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the Maine Black Bears. He played college baseball at Manhattan from 2004–2007, before playing professionally from 2007–2012. Playing career Derba played college baseball at Manhattan College. While at Manhattan, he played three years (2004-2006) of collegiate summer baseball for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and returned to the A's as hitting and catchers coach in 2013. Maine Black Bears Baseball
The Maine Black Bears baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of the University of Maine, located in Orono, Maine. It is the university's oldest athletic program, having begun play in 1881. It has been a member of the NCAA Division I America East Conference since its founding (as the North Atlantic Conference) at the start of the 1990 season. Its home venue is Mahaney Diamond, located on the university's campus. Nick Derba is the head coach. He was named interim head coach prior to the 2017 season. The program has appeared in 16 NCAA Tournaments and seven College World Series. In conference postseason play, it has won eight ECAC Tournaments and five America East Tournaments. The Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL or Cape League) is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league located on Cape Cod in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. One of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues, the league boasts over one thousand former players who have gone on to play in the major leagues. History Pre-modern era Origins As early as the 1860s, baseball teams representing various Cape Cod towns and villages were competing against one another. The earliest newspaper account is of an 1867 game in Sandwich between the hometown "Nichols Club" and the visiting Cummaquid team. Though not formalized as a league, the games provided entertainment for residents and summer visitors. In 1885, a Fourth of July baseball game was held matching teams from Barnstable and Sandwich. 2021 America East Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2021 America East Conference Baseball Tournament was held from May 27 to May 30, 2021. The top four teams out of the league's eight members met in the double-elimination tournament held at Joe Nathan Field in Stony Brook, New York. The tournament champion, New Jersey Institute of Technology, received the conference's automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. Bracket Conference championship There was no championship game held in 2021. COVID-19
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began on February 14, 2020. On March 12, it was announced that the 2020 NCAA tournament would be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
