Nicholas Paul
Nicholas Paul (born 23 September 1998) is a Trinidadian track cyclist, who specializes in sprinting events. He competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the Men's keirin on 11 August 2024. Career On 6 September 2019, Paul set a flying 200m world record of 9.100 seconds at the Elite Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Coachabamba, Bolivia. The previous record of 9.347 seconds by France's Francois Pervis had stood since 2013. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, in the quarterfinals of the sprint competition, Paul won his first ride against Denis Dmitriev (ROC) but was disqualified in the second ride for not holding his line in the final sprint. Paul went on to lose the third ride controversially when Dmitriev cut in front of him in the sprinter's lane but the appeal from the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee was denied. Gasparillo
Gasparillo is a settlement in southern Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidad. It lies east of Pointe-à-Pierre and northeast of San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, San Fernando. The population is 16,426. The name Gasparillo is applied not only to Gasparillo area, but also the surrounding communities including Bonne Aventure, Reform and Whiteland. Trinidadians do not use Spanish sounds when saying Gasparillo. Correct local pronunciation is "gas-PARR-ri-low." Gasparillo is administrated by Couva–Tabaquite–Talparo Regional Corporation and Princes Town Regional Corporation. Gasparillo owes much of its size to its proximity to the Petrotrin oil refinery at Pointe-à-Pierre. It also provides the only publicly accessible route from the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway to the town of Marabella and the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, named for Olympian, Scout Leader and long-time Gasparillo resident, Manny Ramjohn. Denis Dmitriev
Denis Sergeyevich Dmitriev (; born 23 March 1986) is a Russian track cyclist. Specialising in the sprint events, Dmitriev's best result in international sports was winning a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Hong Kong. At the 2016 Summer Olympics he succeeded to the bronze medal race in sprint, winning the medal. Dmitriev is a four-time European Champion at senior level in the Sprint event for men, and the most successful sprint cyclist in the competitions's history. The Union Cycliste Internationale (; UCI; ) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland. Track Time Trial
The track time trial is a track cycling event where cyclists compete individually against the clock to record the fastest time over the specified distance from a standing start. Time trial bikes Track time trial bikes differ from normal track bikes in two major ways; firstly they have disc or 3–5 spoked wheels, and secondly they often use aero-bars to allow the rider to adopt a more aerodynamic riding position. The frames are often more streamlined to reduce air resistance. The men's Keirin event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place on 10 and 11 August 2024 at the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Background This was the 7th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since its introduction in 2000. Qualification Competition format Keirin races involve up to 7 cyclists each (though the 2020 format has no races with more than 6). The cyclists follow a pace motorcycle for 3 laps (750 m); the motorcycle then pulls away and the cyclists race for another 3 laps. These distances are changed from the 2016 Games, shortening the paced section from 5.5 laps and lengthening the unpaced sprint from 2.5 laps.
