Nicholas P. Dallis
Nicholas Peter Dallis (December 15, 1911 - July 6, 1991), was an American psychiatrist turned comic strip writer, creator of the soap opera-style strips ''Rex Morgan, M.D.'', '' Judge Parker'' and '' Apartment 3-G''. Separating his comics career from his medical practice, he wrote under pseudonyms, Dal Curtis for ''Rex Morgan, M.D.'' and Paul Nichols for ''Judge Parker''. Born in New York City, Nick Dallis grew up on Long Island. He graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in 1933 and from Temple University's medical school in 1938 and married a nurse, Sarah Luddy. ''Steve Roper and Mike Nomad'' was an American adventure comic strip that ran (under various earlier titles) from November 23, 1936, to December 26, 2004. Originally ''Big Chief Wahoo'', the focus and title character of the strip changed over time to ''Chief Wahoo'' (1940-1945), ''Chief Wahoo and Steve Roper'' (1945-1946), ''Steve Roper and Wahoo'' (1946-1948), ''Steve Roper'' (1948-1969) and finally ''Steve Roper and Mike Nomad'' (1969-2004). Initially distributed by Publishers Syndicate and then by Field Newspaper Syndicate, then finally at King Features Syndicate. Despite the changes in title, characters, themes, and authors, the entire 68-year run formed a single evolving story, from an Indian who teamed up with an adventurous young photojournalist to two longtime friends ready to retire after their long, eventful careers. Nemo, The Classic Comics Library
''Nemo, the Classic Comics Library'' was a magazine devoted to the history and creators of vintage comic strips. Created by comics historian Rick Marschall, it was published between 1983 and 1990 by Fantagraphics. ''Nemo'' ran for 31 issues (the last being a double issue) plus one annual. Most issues were edited by Marschall. The title was taken from the classic comic strip ''Little Nemo''. While some issues were thematic, most were a mix of articles, interviews, comic strip reprints and more. Marschall later co-founded another magazine about comics, '' Hogan's Alley''. ''Mary Worth'' is an American newspaper comic strip that has had an eight-decade run from 1938. Distributed by King Features Syndicate, this soap opera-style strip influenced several that followed. It was created by writer Allen Saunders and artist Dale Connor, initially appeared under the pseudonym "Dale Allen". Ken Ernst succeeded Connor as artist in 1942. Allen Saunders (April 24, 1899 – January 28, 1986) was an American writer, journalist and cartoonist who wrote the comic strips ''Steve Roper and Mike Nomad'', ''Mary Worth'' and ''Kerry Drake''. He is credited with being the originator of the saying, "Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans" in 1957. The saying was later slightly modified and popularised by John Lennon in the song "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)". His full name, John Allen Saunders, sometimes led to confusion with his son John (John Phillip Saunders, 1924–2003), who later continued two of his father's strips.
