Nicholas Ferguson
Nicholas Ferguson (born 2 June 1938) is an English artist and television director. Education Born in London, Ferguson's artistic career started at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art before moving on to University College London's Slade School of Art. At the Slade he studied under William Coldstream, Lucian Freud and Nicholas Georgiadis. Television During the 1960s, Ferguson worked as an art director for ''Ready Steady Go!'', a popular music show broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV made by Associated-Rediffusion. He then directed "Step into Christmas" for Elton John and other music videos including Paul McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre (song), Mull of Kintyre" and David Bowie's "Heroes (David Bowie song), Heroes" in 1977. Tony Wilson
Anthony Howard Wilson (20 February 1950 – 10 August 2007) was a British record label owner, radio and television presenter, nightclub manager, impresario and a journalist for Granada Television, the BBC and Channel 4. As a co-founder of the independent label Factory Records and founder-manager of the Haçienda nightclub, Wilson was behind some of Manchester's most successful bands, including Joy Division, New Order, and Happy Mondays. Wilson was known as "Mr Manchester", dubbed as such for his work in promoting the culture of Manchester throughout his career. ''So It Goes'' was a British TV music show presented by Tony Wilson on Granada Television between 1976 and 1977. It is most famous for showcasing the then burgeoning punk rock movement. It was named partially in reference to Kurt Vonnegut's 1969 novel ''Slaughterhouse-Five''. The show's first series, produced by Chris Pye, gave the Sex Pistols their first ever TV appearance, and featured performances by Patti Smith. It also included occasional non-punk guests such as journalist Clive James and comedian Peter Cook (hosting a 'Riff of the Month' competition). The second series, produced by Geoff Moore, featured performances by the Jam, the Clash, Buzzcocks, The Stranglers, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan ( ; born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 – 16 September 1977) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a pioneer of the glam rock movement in the early 1970s with his band T. Rex. Bolan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 as a member of T. Rex. In the late 1960s, he rose to fame as the founder and leader of the psychedelic folk band Tyrannosaurus Rex, with whom he released four critically acclaimed albums and had one minor hit "Debora". Bolan had started as an acoustic singer-writer before heading into electric music prior to the recording of T. Rex's first single " Ride a White Swan" which went to number two in the UK singles chart. ''Marc'' is a British television series presented by T. Rex's lead singer Marc Bolan. It was produced in Manchester by Granada Television for the ITV network. A second series was planned but Bolan died before it could be produced. Produced by Muriel Young and directed by Nicholas Ferguson, it ran for six weekly episodes in the autumn of 1977, before its host died in a car crash on 16 September that year. A pop music show with a very limited budget and markedly low production values, it gave Bolan a chance to showcase punk bands such as Generation X, the Jam, Radio Stars and Eddie and the Hot Rods. T.
