Nicholas Codner
Nicholas Codner (born March 23, 2006) is a Canadian curler from Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently plays mate for the Team Simon Perry rink. He is known as the youngest person to ever compete in The Brier, when he played as an alternate for Nathan Young at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier. He was 15. Career In 2020, the Simon Perry team won their first ever provincial championship in the U16 Newfoundland & Labrador Provincials. They were coached by Newfoundland & Labrador curler, Joel Krats. Codner made his curling debut on the competitive scene in 2021 when the Simon Perry rink participated in the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador Tankard. They ended up finishing in last place with a record of 0-7. Their closest loss was against the Trent Skanes rink where they lost by two points. In 2022, Codner won the 2022 U18 Newfoundland & Labrador Curling Provincials. His rink went 6-0 through the round robin to secure themselves the provincial title. This qualified them for the ... Torbay, Newfoundland And Labrador
Torbay is a town located on the eastern side of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town is located north of the capital city of St. John's and is part of the St. John's metropolitan area. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Tim Hortons Brier
The Tim Hortons Brier, or simply (and more commonly) the Brier (''french: Le Brier''), is the annual Canadian men's curling championship, sanctioned by Curling Canada. The current event name refers to its main sponsor, the Tim Hortons coffee and donut shop chain. "Brier" originally referred to a brand of tobacco sold by the event's first sponsor, the Macdonald Tobacco Company. The Brier has been held since 1927, traditionally during the month of March. The winner of the Brier goes on to represent Canada at the World Curling Championships of the same year. Nathan Young (curler)
Nathan Young (born November 18, 2002) is a Canadian curler from Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently skips his own team on the World Curling Tour. Career Young and his team have been competing together from a very young age. It was in 2015 when the rink claimed their first provincial championship in the U16 NLCA Provincials. From that point on it would be a few more years until the quartet won another provincial championship as they went straight up into competing with the U18 age group afterwards. In 2020, Young won his first provincial championship in the U18 category. Alongside Joel Krats who they picked up for the tournament due to Ben Stringer being aged out, they beat Team Liam Quinlan 8-1 in the finals to qualify for the Canadian U18 Curling Championships which was subsequently cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. 2022 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2022 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship, was held from March 4 to 13 at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta. In the final, the defending Olympic bronze medallist Brad Gushue Wild Card #1 team, which also include Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker from Newfoundland and Labrador defeated Alberta, skipped by Kevin Koe. It was Gushue's fourth career Brier title, and the team did it shorthanded, as Nichols missed the playoffs due to testing positive for COVID-19. Joel Krats
Joel Krats (born January 7, 2002) is a Canadian curler originally from Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently plays third for the James Grattan rink in the World Curling Tour. Career In 2018, Joel Krats competed at the national-eligible age group for the first time. He had departed from his previous Labrador squad and moved over to the Gander Curling Club to join and skip for the two-time defending U16 Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Champions; the Ethan Davidge rink. His first event was competing in the 2018 U21 Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Championship where he finished in last place with an 0–4 record. 2021 Newfoundland And Labrador Tankard
The 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador Tankard, the men's provincial curling championship for Newfoundland and Labrador, was held from January 27 to 31 at the RE/MAX Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The winning Greg Smith rink represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship in Calgary, Alberta. The event was held in conjunction with the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's championship. The 2021 Tankard was one of the few provincial curling championships to be held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. 2022 Canadian U18 Curling Championships
The 2022 Canadian U18 Curling Championships were held from May 1 to 7 at the Oakville Curling Club in Oakville, Ontario. The event was originally scheduled to be held February 14 to 20 in Timmins, Ontario, however, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario. This was the fourth edition of the Canadian U18 Curling Championships. The inaugural edition was held in Moncton, New Brunswick in 2017 and was again held in New Brunswick in Saint Andrews in 2018. After the 2019 event in Sherwood Park, Alberta, the U18 nationals were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2023 Canadian U18 Curling Championships
The 2023 Canadian U18 Curling Championships were held from February 5 to 11 at the McIntyre Arena and the McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins, Ontario. Timmins was originally scheduled to host the 2021 edition of the event, however, it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario.
