Gene Ray Nichol, Jr. (born May 11, 1951) is an American lawyer and educator who served as the twenty-sixth president of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. He succeeded Timothy J. Sullivan and officially served from July 1, 2005, to February 12, 2008. It was the shortest tenure for a William & Mary president since the Civil War. During each year of his presidency, however, the college continued to break its own application records. David Alexander Nichol (February 9, 1940 – September 22, 2013) was a Canadian businessman and product marketing expert. As head of product development and eventually President of Loblaws Supermarkets, Nichol introduced the President's Choice store branded lines of products in the 1970s that propelled Loblaws from a struggling supermarket chain to an industry leader. For a time, as a pitchman for Loblaws, he became a recognizable Canadian business personality, largely due to his being featured in thirty-second commercials, and thirty-minute infomercials during the mid-1990s. Keith Nichol (born December 24, 1988) is a former wide receiver and quarterback. He played college football for the University of Oklahoma and Michigan State University. High school career Nichol attended Lowell High School in Lowell, Michigan. After a good freshman season, Nichol was promoted to the varsity team for the playoffs and saw some playing time as a cornerback in a blowout. Nichol had a breakout season as a sophomore. He threw for 2,125 yards and 26 touchdowns in Lowell's veer offense and led the team to a state championship. His success led to him being heavily recruited by several teams in the Big Ten Conference as well as the University of Notre Dame. John Pringle Nichol Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, FRSE FRAS (13 January 1804 – 19 September 1859) was a Scotland, Scottish educator, phrenologist, astronomer and economist who did much to popularise astronomy in a manner that appealed to nineteenth century tastes. John Nichol (8 September 1833 – 11 October 1894), was a Scottish literary academic, and the first Regius Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Glasgow. Early life Born in Montrose, Scotland, Nichol was the son of John Pringle Nichol, Regius Professor of Astronomy at the University of Glasgow. John Jr. studied first at Glasgow (1848–55) and then Balliol College, Oxford (1855–9) as a Snell Exhibitioner, graduating with a First-Class degree in Classics, Philosophy and Mathematics. Adrian "John" Nichol is a retired Royal Air Force navigator who was shot down and captured during the Gulf War. Early life Adrian John Nichol was born in North Shields. He was the youngest of four children, and attended St Joseph's RC Primary School in Chirton, north of the Tyne Tunnel. He went to secondary school at St Cuthbert's RC Grammar School in Newcastle upon Tyne, travelling in daily by train. He gained seven O-levels, but his results weren't good enough to apply for a Royal Air Force (RAF) apprenticeship. Maurice Nichol (10 September 1904 – 21 May 1934) was an English first-class cricketer who played 136 matches in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Other than one appearance for the Players in 1931, all his games were for Worcestershire. Before beginning his first-class career, Nichol had played at minor counties level for Durham. David Nichol (25 August 1914 – 17 December 1995) was a Scottish first-class cricketer. Nichol was born at Galashiels in August 1914 and was educated at Galashiels Academy. A club cricketer for Gala, Nichol was selected for the Scottish team to play Yorkshire at Glasgow in 1952, having originally not been a member of the squad for this match. Playing alongside his elder brother William, he took the wickets of Willie Watson and Johnny Wardle in the Yorkshire first innings for the cost of 61 runs. Batting twice in the match from the tail, he was dismissed for 4 runs in the Scotland first innings by Bill Holdsworth, while in their second innings he was dismissed for 2 runs by Ronald Wood.
