Nichiren (film)
is a 1979 Japanese historical drama film written and directed by Noboru Nakamura. Based on Matsutarō Kawaguchi's novel of the same name, the film chronicles the life of Nichiren, a Japanese Buddhist monk of the Kamakura period. It was the last film Nakamura directed. Noboru Nakamura
was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. Biography After graduating from the Tokyo Imperial University Faculty of Letters in 1936, Nakamura joined the Shochiku film studios, working as an assistant director for Torajirō Saitō and Yasujirō Shimazu. He debuted as director in 1941 with ''Life and Rhythm'', and finally received recognition with his 1951 film '' Home Sweet Home''. His most noted works include the Yasunari Kawabata adaptation '' Twin Sisters of Kyoto'' (1963), ''The Kii River'' (1966) and '' Portrait of Chieko'' (1967). Kanjūrō Arashi
was a Japanese film actor. His nickname was "Arakan." He is famous for playing the role of '' Kurama Tengu'' series. He entered the film industry in 1927 and came to fame playing Kurama Tengu, a character in the Bakumatsu era created by Jirō Osaragi in his novels. In the 1950s he portrayed the Emperor Meiji in several hit films and appeared in yakuza films in the 1960s. Kimiko Ikegami
is an American-born Japanese actress. She is best known for playing the lead role of Gorgeous in the 1977 film ''House''. Early life Born in Manhattan, New York City, United States to Japanese parents, she moved to Kyoto at age 3. Kimiko graduated from Horikoshi High School in Nakano, Tokyo and subsequently attended Tamagawa University. She is closely related to the Bandō Mitsugorō kabuki actors: her grandfather was the eighth, her uncle the ninth (later Bandō Minosuke VII), her cousin (Bandō Yasosuke V) the tenth to take that name. Tetsurō Tamba
was a Japanese actor with a career spanning five decades. He appeared in nearly 300 film and television productions, both in leading and supporting roles, and was the winner of two Japan Academy Film Prizes. At the height of his career, he was one of Japan's most esteemed and prolific leading men, and worked with many significant directors including Kinji Fukasaku, Shōhei Imamura, Masaki Kobayashi, Masahiro Shinoda and Takashi Miike. Several of his films were identified with the Japanese New Wave movement. Keiko Matsuzaka
