The Niagara Predators are a Canada, Canadian junior ice hockey, junior ice hockey team based in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Toronto Predators joined the GMHL as an expansion franchise in February 2013. Founded by Allan Donnan, the Predators called the historic Maple Leaf Gardens (now known as Mattamy Athletic Centre) home. The Predators played their first game on September 7, 2013, at home, against the Orangeville Americans. Hockey Hall of Famers Ken Dryden and Darryl Sittler, and singer John McDermott (singer), John McDermott did the opening puck drop, as the Americans won the game 4–2. Mitch Hebert scored the first goal in team history, just five seconds into the game, while goaltender Marc Villeneuve made 49 saves in a losing effort. Tillsonburg is a town in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada with a population of 18,615 located about 50 kilometres southeast of London, on Highway 3 at the junction of Highway 19. History Prior to European settlement, the present site of Tillsonburg was home to Indigenous tribes. The Tillsonburg Village Site, a 14th century Iroquoian village, was excavated in 2001 and 2008, in the northwest corner of the town, and contained 15 longhouses. The Woodstock Lakers are a Semi-Pro ice hockey team based in the city of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. The Lakers joined the Western Ontario Super Hockey League in 2022, after being a part of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League from 2015 to 2022. They were originally located in Port Stanley, Ontario, and then in West Lorne, Ontario, and London, Ontario, and Platteville, Ontario. They also formerly played in the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA). The Lakers left the OHA in 2008 and played as an independent team. 2016–17 GMHL Season
The 2016–17 GMHL season is the eleventh season of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). The teams of the GMHL played 42-game schedules. In February 2017, the top teams of the league play for the Russell Cup, the playoff championship of the GMHL. Since the GMHL is independent from Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League, this is where the GMHL's season ends. League changes Once all the membership changes were completed and the games were scheduled there were 28 teams. The league realigned then from three divisions to two 14-team North and South Divisions. By the start of the Russell Cup playoffs, there were 21 teams with 10 teams in the North Division and 11 teams in the South Division. Halton Ravens
The St. George Ravens are a Canada, Canadian Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Brant, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History Originally announced as the Cyclones, the Halton Ravens joined the GMHL in spring 2013 based in Burlington, Ontario. On September 5, 2013, the Ravens played their first game in team history, at home, against the defending league champion Bradford Rattlers which the Ravens lost 6–1. Brett Lee scored the first goal in franchise history at 6:47 of the second period. On September 15, 2013, the Ravens won their first game, at home, versus the Powassan Eagles. The final score was 7–4, with Adam Ostermeier scoring the game winner halfway through the third. Mike Calouri made 29 saves for the win. The 2015–16 GMHL season was the tenth season of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). The thirty-two teams of the GMHL played 42-game schedules. Cambridge Bears
The Cambridge Bears were a junior ice hockey team based in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. The team was a member of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League during the 2014–15 season however they were pulled from the league by their owners. The club played their home games out of the Cambridge Sports Park. History In July 2014, it was announced that Cornerstone Sports Group had been granted a franchise in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) for their Cambridge Bears team.
