Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation
Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation was a New York State utility company, which was acquired in 2000 by National Grid plc. The Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation designation was retired, using variations of NationalGridUS (such as National Grid Buffalo), though its official designation on annual reports is still Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. In 1929, 59 former companies were incorporated into the Niagara Hudson Power Corporation. In 1932 an Art Deco-style headquarters building was constructed in Syracuse. It was the main electric and natural gas provider for a large swath of northeastern, central and western New York, including the Capital District, Syracuse, Buffalo and Niagara Falls. The statue on the front of the building is named “Spirit of Light” and was nicknamed “Iron Mike.” The company adopted the name Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in 1950 after antitrust action required Niagara Hudson to forfeit some of their territory in the eastern part of the state. Energy Companies Disestablished In 2000
Energy () is the quantitative property that is transferred to a body or to a physical system, recognizable in the performance of work and in the form of heat and light. Energy is a conserved quantity—the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. The unit of measurement for energy in the International System of Units (SI) is the joule (J). Forms of energy include the kinetic energy of a moving object, the potential energy stored by an object (for instance due to its position in a field), the elastic energy stored in a solid object, chemical energy associated with chemical reactions, the radiant energy carried by electromagnetic radiation, the internal energy contained within a thermodynamic system, and rest energy associated with an object's rest mass. These are not mutually exclusive. All living organisms constantly take in and release energy. The Earth's climate and ecosystems processes are driven primaril ...

Electric Power Companies Of The United States
Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter possessing an electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others. The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field. The motion of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field. In most applications, Coulomb's law determines the force acting on an electric charge. Electric potential is the work done to move an electric charge from one point to another within an electric field, typically measured in volts. Electricity plays a central role in many modern technologies, serving in electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment, and in electronics dealing with electrical c ...

Nine Mile Point Nuclear Generating Station
Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is a nuclear power plant with two nuclear reactors located in the town of Scriba, approximately five miles northeast of Oswego, New York, on the shore of Lake Ontario. The site is also occupied by the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant. In April 2011, Exelon of Chicago announced its intention to purchase Constellation Energy, the owner and operator of Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. The acquisition was approved by FERC and the companies officially combined on March 12, 2012, with Constellation Energy taking the Exelon name. Exelon separated its generating assets back into Constellation Energy in 2022. Constellation owns Unit 1 and holds (82%) of Unit 2 while Long Island Power Authority holds (18%). Constellation Energy is the sole operator of both Units 1 and 2. Both units are boiling water reactors (BWRs). Units 1 and 2 Both units are General Electric boiling water reactors (BWR).
