Ni Shiqun
Ni Shiqun (; born 26 February 1997, in Shanghai) is a Chinese chess player, who holds the FIDE title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM). In July 2015, she finished 2nd–3rd at the FIDE Zonal 3.5 Championship, a qualifier for the Women's World Chess Championship 2017. In October 2015, Ni won the women's division of the inaugural Asian University Chess Championship, which took place in Beijing. In 2016, she also won the Women's World University Chess Championship in Abu Dhabi. Alexandra Konstantinovna Kosteniuk (russian: Алекса́ндра Константи́новна Костеню́к; born 23 April 1984) is a Russian chess grandmaster who is the former Women's World Rapid Chess Champion in 2021, and the former Women's World Chess Champion from 2008 to 2010. She was European women's champion in 2004 and a two-time Russian Women's Chess Champion (in 2005 and 2016). She is the runner-up of the Women's World Chess Championship 2015. She is a two time Russian Women's Champion (in 2012 and 2018). Pogonina was a member of the gold medal-winning Russian team at the Women's Chess Olympiads of 2012 and 2014, and at the 2011 Women's European Team Chess Championship. Lilit Mkrtchian ( hy, Լիլիթ Մկրտչյան; born 9 August 1982) is an Armenian chess player. She holds the titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM), which FIDE awarded her in 2003 and 1998 respectively. Mkrtchian is a four-time Armenian women's chess champion. In 2002, Mkrtchian won the silver medal in the European Individual Women's Championship in Varna, Bulgaria, scoring 8½/11 points. She participated in the Women's European Team Chess Championship 2003 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, helping Armenia to win the gold medal. FIDE titles are awarded by the international chess governing body FIDE (''Fédération Internationale des Échecs'') for outstanding performance. The highest such title is Grandmaster (GM). Women's World Chess Championship 2017
The Women's World Chess Championship 2017 was a 64-player knock-out tournament, to decide the women's world chess champion. The final was won by Tan Zhongyi over Anna Muzychuk in the rapid tie-breaks. At the FIDE General Assembly during the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Baku in September 2016, the organizational rights to the event were awarded to Iran, who held the Championship in Tehran from 10 February to 4 March 2017. Some top female players decided not to attend the tournament. Hou Yifan, the outgoing women's world champion and top ranked female player, decided not to enter the tournament because of dissatisfaction with FIDE's Women's World Championship system. The 2015 Women's World Champion, Mariya Muzychuk, and US Women's Champion Nazí Paikidze also elected not to attend, out of protest at the tournament's location in Iran, where it is mandatory for all women to wear a hijab in public (a rule which also applied to the participating players).
