Ng Chee Peng
Ng Chee Peng is a Singaporean civil servant and former two-star rear-admiral who served as Chief of Navy between 2011 and 2014. Education Ng was awarded the President's Scholarship and Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship in 1989. He graduated from the University of Oxford with a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours degree in philosophy, politics and economics (PPE). He was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces Postgraduate Scholarship (General Development) in 2002, before going on to complete a Master of Public Administration degree at Harvard University. The chief of Defence Force is the head of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), who holds the rank Lieutenant-General or Vice-Admiral. The position was created in 1974 as Chief of the General Staff, with the appointment of Winston Choo, before changing to its current name in May 1990. Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. Ng Chee Meng ( zh, s=黄志明, p=Huáng Zhìmíng; born 8 August 1968) is a Singaporean politician, union leader and former lieutenant-general who has been serving as Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress since 2018. Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. In the Commonwealth and in the United States, when appointed to a field command, a major general is typically in command of a division consisting of around 6,000 to 25,000 troops (several regiments or brigades). The Central Provident Fund Board (CPFB), commonly known as the CPF Board or simply the Central Provident Fund (CPF), is a compulsory comprehensive savings and pension plan for working Singaporeans and permanent residents primarily to fund their retirement, healthcare, education and housing needs in Singapore.
