Nexus Airlines (Australia)
Nexus Airlines is an Australian regional airline based in Kununurra, Western Australia. A subsidiary of the HMC Group, it commenced operations in July 2023 and operates in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. History Nexus Airlines launched on 17 May 2023 announcing plans to commence regular public transport (RPT) services with five De Havilland Canada Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircraft leased from Nordic Aviation Capital. The first flight on the Geraldton to Broome via Karratha and Port Hedland route commenced on 10 July 2023. The airline has exclusive rights to operate the route until June 2027. Flights on the Broome to Darwin via East Kimberley route commenced on 28 July, in competition with incumbent operator Airnorth. Initially four flights a week were operated on this route, in May 2024 this increased to daily. On 2 April 2024 Nexus commenced RPT flights between Perth and Kalgoorlie twice daily one day per week. De Havilland Canada Dash 8
The De Havilland Canada DHC-8, commonly known as the Dash 8, is a series of turboprop-powered regional airliners, introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984. DHC was bought by Boeing in 1986, then by Bombardier in 1992, then by Longview Aviation Capital in 2019; Longview revived the De Havilland Canada brand. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW150s, it was developed from the Dash 7 with improved cruise performance and lower operational costs, but without STOL performance. The Dash 8 was offered in four sizes: the initial Series 100 (1984–2005), the more powerful Series 200 (1995–2009) with 37–40 seats, the Series 300 (1989–2009) with 50–56 seats, and Series 400 (1999–2022) with 68–90 seats. Karratha Airport
Karratha Airport is an airport in Karratha, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The airport is from Karratha and south of Dampier. History At the beginning of the iron ore industry in the early 1960s, Dampier was chosen as the port for Hamersley Iron's operations and this signalled the beginning of major development in the Pilbara. Roebourne airport was the nearest airport. In 1966 Hamersley Iron constructed an airport on the present Karratha Airport site with a sealed gravel runway and small terminal building and named it Dampier Airport. With the introduction of the Fokker F28 jet aircraft by MacRobertson Miller Airlines (MMA) in 1969, regular passenger flights by MMA to the unsealed Roebourne airport were discontinued.
