Newtownmountkennedy
Newtownmountkennedy () is a small town in County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It developed within the historic townland of Ballygarny () (now Mount Kennedy Demesne), although all that remains is a motte where a church, graveyard and a castle or tower house once stood just north of the town. It acquired its present name in the mid-seventeenth-century, when Sir Robert Kennedy, M.P. for Kildare Borough (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Kildare, made it his principal residence. It is just off the N11 road (Ireland), N11 road to Wexford, just south of Kilpedder and south-west of Greystones. It is about north of Wicklow, Wicklow town, south of Bray, County Wicklow, Bray and approximately from Dublin. N11 Road (Ireland)
The N11 road is a national primary road in Republic of Ireland, Ireland, running for along the east side of Ireland from Dublin to Wexford. It passes close to Bray, County Wicklow, Bray, Greystones, Wicklow, Arklow, Gorey, and Enniscorthy. Beyond Wexford, the route continues to Rosslare Europort, Rosslare as the N25 road (Ireland), N25. The road forms part of European route E01. As of July 2019 the N11/M11 is of dual carriageway or motorway standard from Dublin as far as Oylegate, Oilgate in County Wexford. The road is a busy commuter route, being the only dual carriageway passing through the south eastern suburbs of Dublin, as well as close to the many commuter towns along the east coast as far south as Gorey. Kilcoole railway station () is a railway station in Kilcoole, County Wicklow, Ireland. The station serves the village of the same name and the nearby village of Newtownmountkennedy. History The station was opened on 30 October 1855 by the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway as ''Kilcool''. The station was closed in 1964 due to a lack of resources or use. It reopened on 2 November 1980, renamed Kilcoole. Location The station is located on Kilcoole Beach, right beside the coastline. Kilcoole
Kilcoole () is a town in County Wicklow, Ireland. It is south of Greystones, north of Wicklow, and about south of Dublin. The town is in a townland and civil parish of the same name. Kilcoole was used as a filming location for the Irish television series '' Glenroe'', which ran through the 1980s and 1990s. The town has a large industrial estate to the south. An area of marshland runs along the coast from Kilcoole south to Wicklow town, called the ''Murragh''. This area is home to many endangered species of plants and animals. The nearby beach is the summertime home of the little tern, one of the few places in Ireland where these birds nest. Kilquade, historically ''Killcowade'' (), is a townland and a Roman Catholic parish in north County Wicklow, Ireland. It lies between Kilpedder and Kilcoole, about one kilometre east of Junction 12 (Kilpedder) of the N11 national primary route. It is part of the barony of Newcastle and lies within both the civil parishes of Kilcoole and Newcastle Lower. The church, St. Patrick's, was built in 1802, refurbished in 2002-2003 and rededicated in 2004. Directly across the road from the church is the National Garden Exhibition Centre. Catholic parish The Catholic Parish of Kilquade includes the areas of Kilquade, Kilpedder, Kilcoole, Newcastle, Delgany and Newtownmountkennedy. Kilpedder (, meaning "Peter's church") is a village in County Wicklow, Ireland, located off the N11 road between Kilmacanogue and Newtownmountkennedy, just south of the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve. It had a population of 1,255 as of the 2016 census. Kilpedder environs include Glenview Park, Kilpedder Grove, Johnstown, Tinnapark, Sunnybank and the Garden Village to the south. The Irish grid reference system is a system of geographic grid references used for paper mapping in Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). Any location in Ireland can be described in terms of its distance from the origin (0, 0), which lies off the southwest coast. The Irish grid partially overlaps the British grid, and uses a similar co-ordinate system but with a meridian more suited to its westerly location.
