NewsNation
NewsNation is an American cable news network owned by Nexstar Media Group. Known for most of its history as Superstation WGN before becoming WGN America in 2008, it relaunched on March 1, 2021, as a cable news network named after its flagship news program. The channel's relaunch came as part of a planned expansion of its news programming. The channel continued to carry some entertainment programming held over from WGN America on weekends, but this was discontinued in July 2024. After their subsequent acquisitions by Nexstar, '' The Hill'' and broadcast network The CW have also collaborated with NewsNation on content. In September 2018, the channel, then WGN America, was received by approximately 80-million households that subscribed to a pay television service throughout the United States (or 62.7% of households with at least one television set). WGN America
WGN America was an American subscription television network that operated from November 9, 1978 to February 28, 2021. The service was originally uplinked to satellite by United Video Inc. as a national feed of Chicago independent station WGN-TV, making the station's programming available to cable and satellite providers throughout the United States as the second nationally distributed "superstation" (after Atlanta station WTCG, now operating as the cable-originated TBS, which had become a national service almost two years earlier). The CW
The CW Network, LLC (commonly referred to as The CW or simply CW) is an American commercial broadcast television network which is controlled by Nexstar Media Group through a 75% ownership interest. The network's name is derived from the first letters of the names of its two founding co-owners CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Nexstar acquired a 75% controlling stake in the network on October 3, 2022, with Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery ( CBS Entertainment Group and Warner Bros. Television's respective parent companies) each retaining a 12.5% ownership stake. Cable news channels are television networks devoted to television news broadcasts, with the name deriving from the proliferation of such networks during the 1980s with the advent of cable television. In the United States, the first nationwide cable TV news channel to launch was CNN in 1980, followed by Financial News Network (FNN) in 1981 and CNN2 (now HLN (TV network), HLN) in 1982. WGN (AM)
WGN (720 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Chicago, Illinois, featuring a talk radio format. WGN's studios are in the Chicago Loop, while the transmitter is in Elk Grove Village. WGN also features broadcasts of Chicago Blackhawks hockey and Northwestern University football and basketball. Since 2022, WGN is the only radio station owned by Nexstar Media Group, which primarily owns television stations (and is the largest owner of television stations in the U.S.). It was founded in 1922 as WDAP. Sean Compton
Sean Compton is a Chicago-based radio and television executive. Biography Compton began his career in radio in 1990. In 1993 he became Program Director of Cincinnati radio station WSAI eventually rising to VP of programming in 1999 for Clear Channel Radio and Premiere Radio Networks. Compton left Clear Channel radio in 2008 to join Tribune Broadcasting as President of television programming. In 2019 Nexstar acquired Tribune Broadcasting and created a networks division headed by Compton.
