Newcastle Falcons (NBL1 East)
Newcastle Falcons is a NBL1 East club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 East. The club is a division of Newcastle Basketball, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Falcons play their home games at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. Club history In 1983, Newcastle Basketball began fielding a men's team in the South Eastern Basketball League (SEBL). The Newcastle Hunters were SEBL champions in 1986 and runners-up in 1987. The SEBL became known as the SEABL in 1988 and in 1990, Newcastle Basketball entered a team in the inaugural SEABL women's competition. Newcastle Basketball Stadium
The Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium, also known as the Newcastle Basketball Stadium, is an indoor basketball stadium located in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and was the original home of the Newcastle Falcons of the National Basketball League from the origin of the league in 1979 until they moved to the newly built Newcastle Entertainment Centre in 1992. The stadium is currently the home of the Newcastle Basketball Association and can hold approximately 2,200 spectators. On 18 July 1982, the stadium hosted the 1982 NBL Grand Final where the West Adelaide Bearcats defeated the Geelong Supercats 80–74. The South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) was an Australian semi-professional basketball league. The league comprised both a men's and women's competition and was run by the country's governing body, Basketball Australia. The league was one and the same with the Australian Basketball Association (ABA) from its inception in 1981 until 1993. Below is a list of South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) champions for both the men's and women's competitions. The men's competition ran from 1981 to 2018, while the women's competition ran from 1990 to 2018. Men The champions of the SEABL from 1981 to 1993 are historically identical to the ABA National Champions, due to the SEABL and the CBA/ABA being one in the same during that period. Over the league's first five seasons, the finals were contested between the top four teams at the end of the regular season. Conferences were first introduced in 1986. The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) was a semi-professional basketball entity based in Australia. The ABA was Australia's biggest basketball competition for many years. With over 120 teams participating across five leagues and six states, the ABA competition was the vital link between grass roots basketball in Australia and the elite NBL and WNBL leagues. Waratah League Teams
Waratah (''Telopea'') is an Australian-endemic genus of five species of large shrubs or small trees, native to the southeastern parts of Australia (New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania). The best-known species in this genus is ''Telopea speciosissima'', which has bright red flowers and is the New South Wales (NSW) state emblem. The waratah is a member of the family Proteaceae, flowering plants distributed in the Southern Hemisphere. The key diagnostic feature of Proteaceae is the inflorescence, which is often very large, brightly coloured and showy, consisting of many small flowers densely packed into a compact head or spike. Species of waratah boast such inflorescences ranging from 6–15 cm in diameter with a basal ring of coloured bracts.
