Newborough-Yallourn United SC is a soccer club based in Newborough, Victoria, Newborough, Victoria (state), Victoria, Australia. The club was founded in 1923 as ''Yallourn Soccer Club'' before relocating in 1980 and subsequently merging with ''Newborough Soccer Club'' (themselves formed in 1955) in 1995. The club currently competes in Latrobe Valley Soccer League and is regularly referred to as NYU or The Combine. The club's biggest claim to fame is that it was the first non-metropolitan club to be crowned Victorian league champions, winning the 1951 Victorian Division 1 title - the equivalent of NPL Victoria today - just four years after joining the competition. Yallourn SC spent a total of 55 years playing in Victoria's metropolitan leagues (from 1995 as Newborough-Yallourn United) before moving to the LVSL permanently in 2005. Latrobe Valley Soccer League (LVSL) is a soccer league encompassing much of Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley in ( Victoria. As the region with the National Soccer League's only regional participant, as well as being home to multiple Victorian state champions, the LVSL is widely acknowledged as being one of the strongest soccer leagues in regional Australia. Moe United SC is a soccer club based in Moe, Victoria, Australia. The club was founded in 1952, currently competes in Latrobe Valley Soccer League. Alexander Ferguson (born 1913-?) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside right for clubs including St Johnstone, Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian. While with St Johnstone, he was selected for a Scottish Football Association tour of North America in the summer of 1935; none of the matches was considered a full international. He had earlier represented his country at Junior level while with Lochee Harp. His spell at Hibs was a short end-of-season loan to aid the team in their fight against relegation in 1935–36, which was successful. Frank McIver
Francis Walker McIver (1904 – 5 February 1978) was an Australian soccer player, coach and administrator. A prolific forward, he represented Victoria and Australia. He was an inaugural inductee into the Football Federation Australia Hall of Fame in 1999 and inducted into the Football Victoria Hall of Fame in 2016. Early life McIver was born in Cramlington just north of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1904. At age 13, he left school to work as a coal miner. Career Club career After establishing a reputation as a skilled street footballer, he commenced his playing career as a 17-year-old for Seaton Delaval Presbyterians in the Blyth and District League in 1921-22.
