New York Thrash
''New York Thrash'' is a hardcore punk compilation album released by ROIR in 1982. Considered a definitive document of the early New York hardcore and late 1970s punk scene, ''New York Thrash'' features rare and otherwise unreleased recordings, including the first recorded material by the Beastie Boys (also on their '' Polly Wog Stew'' EP) as well as material by Bad Brains. Original artwork and cover lettering by Bob Giordano. The album was originally released in cassette format with liner notes by Tim Sommer, but was reissued on CD with two bonus tracks in 1998. Kraut was a New York City punk rock/hardcore punk band formed by Doug Holland, in 1981 The original members were Davy Gunner (vocals), Doug Holland (guitar/vocals) Don Cowan (bass/vocals), and Johnny Feedback (drums/vocals).Sharpe-Young, Garry. Their debut single, "Kill for Cash", and second single, "Unemployed", were both released in 1981 on the band's own Cabbage Records label. While recording their debut album, ''An Adjustment to Society'' (produced by Ryk Oakley), they opened for the Professionals at The Channel in Boston. ROIR Compilation Albums
ROIR (pronounced "roar"), or Reachout International Records, is a New York City-based independent record label founded in 1979 by Neil Cooper (ROIR), Neil Cooper. Background ROIR was founded the same year that the Sony Walkman launched, and initially, the label exclusively distributed its releases in Compact audio cassette, cassette format. Much of the label's catalog is now available in Compact Disc, CD and Gramophone record, LP formats. ROIR released its first cassette, by James Chance and the Contortions, in 1981. In 1982, ROIR released the compilation album ''New York Thrash'', documenting the hardcore punk scene in the New York metropolitan area. The Stimulators (American Band)
The Stimulators were an American punk rock band from New York City. Although they have a limited discography, they are notable for being consistently cited as an important transitional band between the late-1970s New York City punk rock scene and New York hardcore, and for being the musical entry point for future Cro-Mags founder Harley Flanagan. History Denise Mercedes grew up in Manhattan and Queens, New York City, raised by a longshoreman father who played flute and piano. Teaching herself to play guitar, she became infatuated with punk rock after having seen the Damned play their first New York City show at CBGB. Denise attended the gig with a friend who worked for Stiff Records and has recalled of the event "literally the second they started to play, my life changed." Even Worse was an American, New York City-based punk rock band, formed in 1980. Drummer Jack Rabid (who founded the music magazine ''The Big Takeover'', also in 1980) was the only constant, as the band lineup changed numerous times over the course of the band's four-year existence. Other members included vocalists John Pouridas, John Berry, Garth Ripton, Rebecca "R.B." The Undead
The Undead is an American horror punk band formed in 1980 in New York City's East Village by Bobby Steele (vocals and guitar), Chris "Jack" Natz (bass) and Patrick Blanck (drums). They were one of the pioneers in the New York hardcore scene. History Steele (then of the Misfits) and Natz had been playing with drummer Richie Matalia as a side project called the Skabs. When Matalia departed and Steele left the Misfits, the trio of Steele, Natz and Patrick Blanck formed the Undead in October 1980. In June 1982, the Undead released their first EP, '' 9 Toes Later'', and were featured on the ROIR '' New York Thrash'' compilation. A few months later Natz and Blanck left the band; Natz later played in Virus, the Blacksnakes and Cop Shoot Cop. They were replaced by Brian "Payne" Aliano on bass and Bobby Savage on drums, and this lineup released the "Verbal Abuse" single in 1983. Heart Attack (band)
Heart Attack was an American early New York hardcore band formed in 1980 and active until 1984. History Formed in the suburban area of Whitestone, Queens, in New York City, they were probably the youngest punk band in the New York City area at the time, according to some flyers and fanzines, as the first line-up was formed by people from 12 to 16 years old. Their first demos (''Hitler Demo'' and ''The Mojo Sessions'') was heavily influenced by English punk rock, especially Sex Pistols and The Clash, with hilarious lyrics, but soon after attending a CBGB show of the Bad Brains, singer Jesse Malin and guitarist Jackie Flanagan decided to switch genres to the latest wave of punk, hardcore.
