New York State Route 166 (NY 166) is a north–south state highway in Otsego County, New York, in the United States. It extends for from NY 28 in the village of Milford to U.S. Route 20 (US 20) north of the village of Cherry Valley. Much of NY 166's southern portion is near Cooperstown, and various county routes serve as connectors between NY 166 and Cooperstown. In Cherry Valley, NY 166 intersects the former western terminus of the First Great Western Turnpike. After passing under US 20, the road continues as County Route 32, which becomes County Route 82 at the Montgomery County line, north to Sprout Brook in Montgomery County, where it meets NY 163. The Village of Milford is a village in the northeastern part of the Town of Milford, in Otsego County, New York, United States. It is located northeast of Oneonta. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 415. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.5 square mile (1.2 km2), all land. General Drafting
General Drafting Corporation of Convent Station, New Jersey, founded by Otto G. Lindberg in 1909, was one of the "Big Three" road map publishers in the United States from 1930 to 1970, along with H.M. Gousha and Rand McNally.General Drafting Co., Inc. company brochure, 1982. 1930 State Highway Renumbering (New York)
In January 1930, the U.S. state of New York implemented a major renumbering of its state highways. Many previously existing numbered routes were renumbered or realigned. At the same time, many state highways that were previously unnumbered received designations. Most of the highways with numbers in the 100s to 300s were assigned at this time. Route numbers were assigned in clusters based on their general location. Because some of these route numbers are no longer in use, the pattern of clusters is not fully apparent today. Before 1930, the route numbering system in place had its origins in the 1920s. At the time, New York only assigned numbers to a small subset of its state highways. Route numbers spanned from 1–80, with routes running primarily north–south having even numbers and routes generally running east–west having odd numbers. Cherry Valley is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. According to the 2020 US census, the village of Cherry Valley had a population of 487. However, the town has a much higher population. Within the town of Cherry Valley is a village, also called Cherry Valley. The town is in the northeastern corner of the county and is northeast of the City of Oneonta. History The modern history of Cherry Valley begins with John Lindesay receiving a land grant from George II of Great Britain; he moved there in 1739, and seven Anglo-Scottish families from New Hampshire moved into the area the following year. Due to high snow, the community almost failed but was saved by provisions from local natives. It serves as a connector between NY 166 in the Otsego County town of Roseboom and NY 10 in the Schoharie County town of Seward. NY 165 is a two-lane highway its entire length. Route description NY 165 begins at an intersection with NY 166 in the hamlet of Roseboom, within the town of the same name.
