New York State Common Retirement
The New York State Common Retirement fund is a public pension plan for the employees of New York State government. , it was the third largest public pension plan in the nation, and held $207.4 billion in assets. These assets are overseen by the New York State Comptroller's office and are held on behalf of more than one million members of the New York State and Local Retirement Systems (NYSLRS). As of March 31, 2018, its one-year return was 11.35%, however its 10-year return was 6.4%. In 2017, the fund was able to cover about 95% of the benefits it paid out. The fund paid out $11.45 billion in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018. Organization The fund is administered by the Office of the New York State Comptroller. Alan Hevesi
Alan George Hevesi (January 31, 1940 – November 9, 2023) was a convicted felon and American politician who served as a New York State Assemblyman from 1971 to 1993, as New York City Comptroller from 1994 to 2001, and as New York State Comptroller from 2003 to 2006. Hevesi resigned as Comptroller effective December 22, 2006, as part of a plea bargain with the Albany County Court related to his unlawful use of state employees to care for his ailing wife. In February 2007, Hevesi was sentenced to a $5,000 fine and permanently banned from holding elective office. Four years later, Hevesi pleaded guilty to corruption charges surrounding a "pay to play" scheme regarding the New York State Pension Fund.
