New York Polish Film Festival
New York Polish Film Festival (abbreviated to NYPFF, Polish: ''Nowojorski Festiwal Filmów Polskich'') is a film festival held annually in New York City since 2005. Its mission is to present and promote Polish cinema in the United States, to expose an American audience to Polish films, as well as to offer Polish filmmakers a rare opportunity to showcase their works in a major cultural center such as New York. Each year the festival presents acclaimed selections of features, short films, animations and documentaries of Polish filmmakers regardless of the country where films were made. NYPFF is the only annual presentation of Polish films in New York City and the largest festival promoting and presenting Polish films on the East Coast. Awards The film festival’s jury grants the "Beyond Borders Award," named in honor of Krzysztof Kieślowski, for the best feature, documentary and short films (only Polish productions and US premieres at the festival are qualified to compete). Elżbieta Czyżewska
Elżbieta Justyna Czyżewska (May 14, 1938 – June 17, 2010) was a Polish actress active in both Poland and the United States. She began her career in Poland before moving to New York City in the 1960s. She gained critical acclaim in the early 1960s that culminated in breakthrough performances in '' The Saragossa Manuscript'' (1964, dir. Wojciech Jerzy Has), ''Marriage of Convenience'' (1966, dir. Seattle Polish Film Festival
The Seattle Polish Film Festival (SPFF) is an annual film festival, held in Seattle, Washington, showcasing current and past films of Polish cinema. It is produced by the Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association and awards the Seattle Spirit of Polish Cinema awards as well as the Viewers Choice of Best Film. The first edition of the SPFF was held in 1992. The 17th edition of the festival was held from April 10, 2009 through April 19, 2009. Members of the Jury included Brian Jones, PSG Films; Zbyszek Pietrzyk, SPFF; and Lance Rhoades from Seattle Film Institute and University of Washington. Polish Film School () refers to an informal group of Polish film directors and screenplay writers active between 1956 and approximately 1963. Among the most prominent representatives of the school are Andrzej Wajda, Andrzej Munk, and Jerzy Kawalerowicz. Overview The group was under the heavy influence of Italian neorealists. It took advantage of the liberal changes in Poland after 1956 Polish October to portray the complexity of Polish history during World War II and German occupation. Among the most important topics were the generation of former Home Army soldiers and their role in post-war Poland and the national tragedies like the German concentration camps and the Warsaw Uprising. The political changes allowed the group to speak more openly of the recent history of Poland.
